Now that the Kedah menteri besar crisis is over, BN assemblypersons are reportedly starting to jostle for positions on the state executive council.

However, according to Umno-owned Utusan Malaysia , the new MB Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah said he is not easy to influence.

"Indeed there are those who have come up to me, but that doesn’t mean that I will take the person.

“I have also to look at how the party views that individual, and that person needs to work hard,” Bashah is reported as saying.

He said he would have to finalise his executive council by next week.

He would also consult the state legal adviser, and consider whether the exco members have to be sworn-in again with the change in menteri besar.

Asked if he would reshuffle the exco or add new members, he said he would study the matter.

“On reshuffling or adding excos, I would have to see first. Perhaps there are excos who are loyal to (deposed MB) Mukhriz Mahathir, and may reject the position if we offered it now,” he said.

Mukhriz, the son of Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the former prime minister who has become Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s biggest critic, stepped down on Wednesday, after two weeks of political turmoil in Kedah.

His decision came after the Regency Council informed him that he had lost the confidence of the majority of the state's assemblypersons.
