MCA makes early start for GE14, targets winning 10 seats

MCA is streamlining its strategy and ground works in its efforts to regain the support of the people, especially the Chinese community, in the coming 14th general election (GE14).

Its Youth chief, Senator Chong Sin Woon, said in recognising setbacks in MCA's performance in GE13, MCA was committed to capturing as much support as possible from the Chinese community, as well as from the fence-sitters.

"This time, we are making a more thorough and organised preparation for the coming general election. We have also gone to the ground in each constituency contested by MCA to study and plan the best strategy to regain those areas that we lost.

"We also have an indicator or scale, which we will use to measure and evaluate the level of preparedness of our machinery in the areas concerned. What is important is for us to strengthen MCA and Barisan Nasional (BN)," Chong told Bernama when met in Nilai today.

Chong, who is also deputy education minister, said MCA was also targeting to win at least 10 parliamentary seats in GE14.

MCA won only seven of 37 parliamentary seats it contested in GE13, and 11 of 90 state seats it contested.

Elaborating, Chong said the target set was based on the current positive development of the community on the party.

"As for the state seat target, we are still in the evaluation stage and it will be decided later," he added.

As for the role MCA would play in the Sarawak state election, slated for April 30 this year, Chong said the party would cooperate closely with the Sarawak United Peoples' Party and others, in terms of strategy and efforts, to counter opposition slander on the social media.

Earlier, the Youth chief held a walkabout in Nilai town and distributed his Chinese New Year open house invitation cards, as well as mandarin oranges to traders and residents.
