The lower you are, the hungrier you're for power

YOURSAY | ‘With Najib's credibility, installing a Nobel laureate as MB wouldn't save Umno from ridicule.’

'Stop ridiculing Bashah, he holds SPM qualification'

GE14Now!: This is proof indeed that what is required to 'rule' in Umno is not competence. In fact, they prefer incompetence. That is also one of the reasons why the scholarships have been suspended.

This brainless government wants the rest of the country to remain stupid and blind for in such a kingdom the person with even just one eye is king.

The country is sorely in need of better leaders who are willing to put the interests of the country above their own.

Compare our money-grabbing leaders to New Zealand Prime Minister John Key, who actually donates all of his salary to charity.

Ours think that he is the charity and that all bribes are donations. What a disgrace Umno and its leaders are to the country, especially when they have to explain the low education qualification of the Kedah MB.

Pemerhati: In Malaysia, there is most probably more brain power in any of the teachers’ common rooms in schools or in any of the doctors’ common rooms in hospitals than in the federal cabinet or in the BN-controlled state exco meeting rooms.

Mojo Jojo: With PM Najib Razak's credibility, installing a Nobel laureate as MB wouldn't save Umno from ridicule - let alone someone with only a pre-university certificate.

Behsaikong: Why should a SPM holder be only eligible for an MB position? If one is deemed qualified to be an MB, then why should the SPM holder not be accepted in the teachers' college or law school, etc?

SPM holders are restricted to certain levels of government jobs in the civil service. Why is that so?

What many Malaysians don't like is that doors are open to almost anything when it involves Malaysians who belong to a certain political party.

If the CM of Penang or MB of Selangor were to have only a SPM qualification, would the party of the new Kedah MB keep quiet about this matter?

Prudent: Sometimes academic brilliance may not be suitable for a career in politics.

But a good education sure helps a lot. However, let's see how new Kedah MB Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah performs. By GE14, the voters will make their verdict known.

Awang Top: Don't underestimate a lowly-educated person - he could scheme to topple the most powerful politician in Kedah. As some said, the lower you are, the hungrier you are for power.

Saya Pun Nak Cari Makan: Umno is now so lacking in highly qualified leaders that even a SPM holder is chosen to be MB. What a joke.

This might be true in the 60s, but to happen now is unthinkable. Now in this age technology and science, the country needs highly intelligent leaders to forge ahead.

Take Singapore, for example. Most of its ministers have a good degree from one of the Ivy League universities. As such, it gives them an edge over others.

Sahudi: Ahmad Bashah will be such an inspiration to young men and women from Kedah. If a SPM bloke can become menteri besar, why bother to study any further.

And the government can close down all higher education institutions and save lots of money. Brilliant.

Hang Babeuf: He is clearly, in academic and scholarly terms, the most impressive menteri besar since the great ecologist Ahmad Said of Terengganu.

Apandi under Najib's thumb, says Dr M

Clever Voter: If former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad truly wants the country to progress without any ulterior motives, then he should lead the movement to restore good governance and fight against corruption.

While he may not be young, his influence is still there. For start, he should leave Umno and start the ball rolling. Only then public confidence can be restored.

GE14Now!: I don't just want Umno to crack. I want Umno to implode and be out of commission forever.

They have pillaged this country for long enough and it is time to get rid of corrupt leaders and their mindless goons who spout idiocy whenever they speak.

The country is surviving, not because of Umno politicians but in spite of these corrupt people.

Caripasal: Najib has successfully divert the attention against him to the attorney-general (AG).

This AG is now the laughing stock of the whole world. In ‘helping’ Najib, he lost whatever respect and dignity he has. This is indeed a very heavy price he pays for the tiny gain promised to him.

For the AG, it is no way back but to resign in disgrace. Remember, history will judge you.

Middle Path: Mahathir, you should also take this time to sincerely apologise to the people for dismantling the judiciary causing such to happen. Be sincere and own up to your mistakes.
