Are we surprised at MCA’s behaviour? Not one bit

YOURSAY | ‘Are M’sians going to have to wait another 60 years to be truly united?’

MCA’s dilemma is to find relevance

HaveAgreatDay: DAP Youth’s national executive secretary for publicity Muhammad Shakir Ameer Mohideen, good retort!

It is sad that at this stage of our nation's political development, MCA still has not realised why it has lost its relevance to a large segment of the electorate.

No longer can it claim a loss of voice in the government to threaten the voters. Most voters have seen through what that voice in the government had costs us over the years - our constitutional rights and privileges being whittled down while the MCA stooges kept wagging your tails at your political masters.

The fact of the matter is that the party owes its survival now at the largess of Umno; the writing’s on the wall for MCA.

Ace: A party that allegedly condones and partakes in massive corruption has definitely sounded its own death knell.

And to not stand up strongly against racism - as shown by the many acts (the latest being the ‘red shirt rally’) and pronouncements of Umno leaders - reveals their cowardice and lack of interest in promoting unity in the nation.

What then are the reasons for such a party to remain in a coalition where it has no voice, no power and no relevance?

Wandering Star: Am I surprised at the behaviour of these MCA politicians? Not one bit.

These racial parties are finding excuses for themselves to defend the racism that they practise... and not wanting to look at the wider picture.

After more than half a century of Independence, we still cannot accept everyone as Malaysians.

MCA, do not demonstrate your disgusting hypocrisy and shallow mentality. Malaysia will be better off without individuals like you lot roaming around in our midst.

6th Generation Immigrant: It is perhaps a moot point for MCA and Umno to be amalgamated into one party, as opposed to remaining racially composed.

Are Malaysians going to have to wait another 60 years to be truly united?

In the past 60 years, the young ones have learnt through hardship and on their own. MCA has no stake or claim to the present glories of these young ones; MCA merely rode on the wave.

SusahKes: Good reply, Shakir. Sometimes, I am baffled by the lack of maturity masquerading as "intelligent discourse". But folks like you, restore hope in me.

N1: The party should close shop now, because it is one that has no relevance to most Chinese currently.

7,828 individuals who won’t be spending CNY as M'sians

Telestai!: Many have left the country, including myself and my family. Many more will leave.

Our beloved country is a failed state, and the politicians have failed us badly. The ruling parties are clueless and the opposition is hopeless.

There is no hope in the country, for the systems of governance have been destroyed beyond repair. The people are bigoted, and the public institutions are all crooked.

It is better to leave earlier while there is a chance to resettle elsewhere and start anew, rather than to miss the boat. Those who stayed behind are sentimental fools.

Doc: The individuals or families who have renounced their Malaysian citizenships and have taken up foreign ones are a result of Umno's ‘If you are not happy, you can leave Malaysia’ programme.

Most of these ex-Malaysians have taken Umno's good advice and went abroad in search of greener pastures.

But I am surprised that there are Malays who have renounced their Malaysian citizenships, too. Were they unhappy with Umno fighting for the Malays’ rights, dignity, their slice of the economic pie, etc?

KCW: DAP MP Ong Kian Ming, why do you have to lament about those who want to change their citizenships? It is a globalised world nowadays, and people have the right to choose whether to stay or to leave.

It is good that more Chinese - rather than the other communities - are leaving Malaysia and migrating to Singapore.

In Singapore, they will feel more comfortable (economically and culturally) living with their own kin - which comprises almost 75 percent of Singaporeans.

Economic and cultural reasons are good enough for any kind of migration. Why would you force them to stay in a country that they no longer love? Just let them migrate.

StrainingGnats, SwallowCamels: Ong, I am delighted that we have in you a member of parliament who puts in the patient work of understanding the people you represent.

Doing the primary spadework of looking at and interpreting statistics is indicative of a rare quality. Thank you.

I am also glad to know that you are concerned about the state of our country. You are zealous for the country's welfare. Why else would you lament about the departure of so many talented and productive Malaysians?

One could care less or be indifferent if one wasn't a caring Malaysian. If one was Singaporean, one might even be positively triumphant. And I don't mean that to be a bad thing.

I would certainly question your motive as a public servant if you have not shared your concerns as you have here in your article. I join you in encouraging those who have left to return in the event of a change in government.

As for you, you and your work are an encouragement for those who cannot leave and those who have elected to stay. Gong xi, gong xi.
