Saiful: Am I not human, what about my rights?

Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, the man whom Anwar Ibrahim was convicted of sodomising, has slammed the supporters of the PKR de facto leader for their double standards on human rights.

"I was the victim in this case. Am I not human, that my rights as a victim are denied by human rights groups?

"Maybe the world's reality is upside down. Humans will take care of those important to them, those with power, influence and wealth, and not 'little people' like myself... is this the culture that we want to inculcate?" Saiful said in a statement today.

He said this while lamenting the opposition's continued assertion that Anwar is a political prisoner, not a criminal.

"To the outsiders, especially foreign countries and international bodies that believe (Anwar's supporters), let me tell you that he is not a 'political prisoner'.

"Instead, he is a 'criminal prisoner'. This has nothing to do with democratic oppression. Stop giving support and funds because these are blatant lies," Saiful added.

He then wished his former employer good health, and "peace" in prison, and hoped that Anwar would use his time in jail to reflect on himself and seek forgiveness.

Anwar was jailed exactly one year ago, after the Federal Court upheld an appellate court decision that overturned his earlier acquittal in the Sodomy II case.

Critics have said that trial was politically motivated to remove any possible threat Anwar might pose to the ruling BN government.

The government has denied this.
