YOURSAY | ‘Are there any righteous men and women of authority left in our country?’

Action against Najib - AG may file preliminary objection

Ourvotesdecide: If the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) indeed had recommended for PM Najib Razak to be charged for criminal offences committed under the relevant laws, then, it’s clear that the MACC had found sufficient evidence to do so.

Therefore, attorney-general (AG) Mohamed Apandi Ali is clearly under a statutory duty to charge Najib because not only the law obliges him to do so, it is also in the national interest for a person to be punished regardless of his or her status or position.

We don't want a situation where in future a PM can just appoint a partner in crime to be our AG who in turn will just exercise his discretion to clear such PM of any criminal act that he committed.

Money Talks: In most civilised countries, the courts allow citizens to bring institutions to account for failing to act according to law by issuing writs like certiorari (judicial review) mamdamus (compelling institutions to act according to the law) which is called public interest litigation, but in Malaysia courts very seldom grant these remedies.

Judges need to consider such remedies and not act to protect errant institutions.

Rick Teo: The AG has no grounds to stand because the grounds for compelling the AG to take action against Najib are substantial, and the AG cannot ignore these substantive grounds.

Any judge who ignore this fundamental grounds do it on their own peril. At a later date, they may be asked to justify why they did not support the application to compel the AG to file charges against the PM.

Negarawan: Are there any righteous men and women of authority left in our country's administration? This is the time for them to rise and stop the rot, for the sake of our country's future.

I cannot imagine that in the whole of Malaysia, only former law minister Zaid Ibrahim and ex-Umno leader Khairuddin Abu Hassan have the courage to do the right thing?

Nehru: In India, a citizen can get a court to instruct the prosecutor to charge a protected politician.

For example, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa Jayaram managed to prevent a court hearing on her corruption case for many years.

A citizen filed charges in the Supreme Court and the court ordered the case to be transferred to another state where she was powerless. She was jailed and lost hen CM’s post then.

Apandi becomes the opposition’s enemy number two

GE14Now!: The AG deserves the level of insults hurled at him because he has not displayed any of the qualities required of an unbiased, justice-centric, God-fearing AG.

This one is just another goon who is there to lick the boots of his political masters and like so many of his ilk, he tries to outdo the other goons by calling for more fire and more brimstone (in the form of lifelong imprisonment sentences) to fall on the very people who risk their jobs and salaries to point out the sins of our leaders (and there is a plethora of such wrongdoings on the part of those in power).

It has been suggested that if we cannot respect the person, then we should respect the chair (position) that the person sits in. Sadly, I find it impossible to separate the two in this country and there is no respect left for either.

Unafraid: It is absolutely unthinkable how any AG can make such absurd decisions and throw such ludicrous threats and yet expect the rakyat to respect him.

No wonder he is despised and ridiculed at every table talk that I have been to ever since he cleared the PM in the RM2.6 billion ‘donation’ case, and ordered MACC to stop all investigations into the fiasco.

It is so obvious that he is a paid lackey of the government and an insult to the high legal office that he holds.

Because of these two buffoons up there, Malaysia has become an international laughing stock. No wonder the clown images had gone viral in the social media.

Jbsuara: Indeed, with no more credibility to his name and position as AG, Apandi has become the laughing stock of the world.

He has also become the curse and bane of ordinary Malaysians because helping Najib to stay will lead to more economic woes, weak ringgit, distrust of Malaysia by investors, increasing taxes and government fees that citizens have to pay and bear the brunt.

Anonymous_40f4: In the coming Parliament session, Najib is going to ambush the opposition with many more draconian laws or amendments and approve them at 4am in the morning after stopping the clock.

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will come out with a well-planned eyewash to hoodwink the Parliament. The BN speaker will orchestrate the whole ‘sandiwara’ (show) by not allowing any questions.

Anonymous_4056: Apandi’s role as an AG is for window dressing. His real role is to be Najib's hitman.

His main task is to protect PM Najib at all cost. In fact, he is more valuable than DPM Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in the eyes of the PM. This fact is painful, but real.
