Is Ku Li showing signs of being a ‘lallang-man’?

YOURSAY | ‘To quote lawyer and poet Cecil Rajendra, ‘Polar bears don't lie, politicians do’.’

Portal: Najib caused his defeat, yet Ku Li backs him

SSG: A politician thinks of the next election. The statesman thinks for the next generation. That is the difference between Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah (Ku Li).

Even Tunku Abdul Rahman was thinking far into the future for future generations when he sacked Mahathir from Umno long ago. He knew what a disaster Mahathir would be for Malaysia.

Even now Mahathir keeps at it, thinking of ways to oust the current PM, not even wanting to wait for the next election. The late Karpal Singh had described this man as a "gutter" politician.

The simple people on the street are now paying for what this man did under cover of the New Economic Policy (NEP), which was formulated to help the poor regardless of race or religion.

He allegedly used it to enrich his cronies in the mistaken belief that their wealth would trickle down to the poor, which never happened. They kept it all for themselves. All he wanted to do was win the next election.

Appum: It would be interesting to know former minister Zaid Ibrahim's response to this man they so highly promoted as a stop-gap prime minister.

By pledging support to a man facing so many allegations of corruption from within and without the country, what do you make of this ‘lallang-man’?

6th Generation Immigrant: The only things that this exercise confirmed are:

1) Razaleigh is wishy-washy and has no political inclinations at all. He is no PM material, then and now.

2) Mahathir and Razaleigh should have already known Najib's character even when he was thrust into taking the Umno Youth head’s post. He can be swayed in any direction as long as he himself features in the equation.

3) Umno and the Malays need better, intelligent and intellectual leaders and must now shy away from nepotism.

4) All political posts related to Umno need not be contested by the brightest, they can all be negotiated and the values used are in kind.

Anonymous #01428088: It is not who supports whom? Umno has created a society of ‘thieves and robbers’ and in the end this country will be for sale.

Ipohcrite: Najib was supposedly in Razaleigh's camp but switched over to Mahathir's camp at the eleventh hour, for reasons best known to himself. For that, he earned the distinction of being a turncoat.

Mahathir has a reputation of not forgetting his political favours, and helped to install Najib as the prime minister after pressuring Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to step down.

Real Truth: Razaleigh had never been consistent in his views. At times, he will see fit to condemn his own party for transgressions, but will never leave Umno for whatever reasons.

Luckily, he did not become the PM. Otherwise, we would have a PM who is never consistent. As a leader, he has shown little character, and he never stood up for his views.

Sad that we are facing such a dearth of leadership.

Shibboleth: To quote lawyer and poet Cecil Rajendra, "Polar bears don't lie, politicians do."

Sound Mind: You can see that only the VIPs are talked about after an election although every vote counts in an election.

Even if Najib and his supporters had backed Mahathir, it had to add up to other votes for Mahathir to win the election.

So every vote of those who voted for Mahathir is equally important, it is immaterial who they are. This is why we say, ‘mudah lupa’!

Dr Spin: We need to put a stop to the idea that you owe unconditional allegiance to those who supported you once. Political and civil appointments are made for duties to be carried out responsibly.

Once appointed, the incumbent is responsible to carry out those duties correctly, and be accountable to society, and never to act like a puppet on a string.

Anonymous 2401631457931737: I respect Mahathir but the trouble is that almost everything he accuses Najib and the government of doing, he had done when he was in power - detaining people without trial, bailouts, mega projects.

He was said to be responsible for the demise of the judiciary’s independence in Malaysia, messing up of the education system, cronyism, nepotism, favouritism, etc.

Mushiro: Najib's team and MyKMU.net must be desperate to glorify Najib for saving Mahathir during the Mahathir-Ku Li tussle for the Umno presidency. But they forgot to appreciate Mahathir, the man who brought Najib into Umno and nurtured him all the way.

Najib would not have survived Umno politics without spoon-feeding from Mahathir. Even to the very end, it was Mahathir who created the path for Najib to be president of Umno and finally as PM. Now that Najib is facing the wrath of Mahathir, he is at a loss to fight back and is invoking sympathy.

But Mahathir being the man that he is, is fighting head on against Najib and all the machineries of the government - and he is fighting hard like a gentleman and not complaining or begging for sympathy. In spite of all the handicaps, the 63-year-old Najib cannot handle the 90-year-old Mahathir.

Tell the Truth: A man who flows with the wind for self-gain and has no backbone is not worth paying attention to but is to be spit upon.

Anonymous_1378542505 : Kelantanese used to call him bola - he was being kicked around.
