Banned peninsular leaders Skype their way into Sarawak

Sarawakian: The ban on opposition leaders may yet backfire on BN in Sarawak.

We Sarawakians feel that CM Adenan Satem imposed the ban under instruction from PM Najib Abdul Razak to avoid bringing up the 1MDB issue. It shows Najib is allegedly in control of Adenan and therefore Sarawak.

I myself had a good impression of Adenan and considered voting for him with the hope he will bring change. But the ban has totally changed my perception of Adenan and my vote is now for the opposition. Many Sarawakians feel like me.

Mosquitobrain: Adenan, in an electronic age, your 'jungle' laws are but a disgrace and not applicable. You simply cannot stop young, savvy and innovative lawmakers from DAP doing the unexpected.

Next time, they will do better. Small wonder that after almost six decades, the Umno-led BN government is still way behind others. This includes you, 'jaguh kampung' Adenan.

Rupert16: Under the current political climate of obstruction, harassment and intimidation by the allegedly corrupt and incompetent government, the opposition has to be innovative to overcome these challenges.

These political leaders are not criminals so why are they banned from entering Sarawak? Meanwhile, lots of suspected criminals who have allegedly siphoned off billions of ringgit are not banned from entering the state.

Anonymous_40f4: Yes, the idea to ban opposition speakers and campaigners from Sabah and Sarawak is allegedly the work of ‘Sapuman’.

He doesn’t want the people in these two states to know about 1MDB and alleged loss of billions of ringgit of public money, which also belongs to Sabahans and Sarawakians.

Adenan is complicit in this illegal act of barring the opposition from the state. Even if BN wins, it won’t be a moral victory because of this cheating.

Inconvenient truth about S'wak BN's Malayanness

I was one of those who found it too tiresome to listen to the audio recording. It is so much quicker and easier to read the transcript.

It is clear that Malaysiakini was spot on in calling a spade a spade, but I don't think the police and judiciary will see it the same way. That's the Malaysian system - loaded with double standards.

Ourvotesdecide: Go back to the terms and conditions of Sarawak agreeing to be a partner in the formation of Malaysia. I thought if the state's chief minister (CM) is Dayak then the state's governor must be Malay/Muslim and vice-versa?

Of course, it’s good to understand and remember as to why and how the Dayak CM Stephen Kalong Ningkan was removed then reinstated by the court, only to be later dismissed after Emergency rule was declared in Sarawak by the federal government.

Perhaps read the book ‘The Rising Moon’ by Michael Leigh, which never shows up in the local bookshops nowadays.

KCW: I don't see any racist element from the transcript. But while it is not racist, Annuar was using communal appeal to urge for the maintenance of Muslim leadership in Sarawak.

And Malaysiakini's original title ‘Vote BN to keep Muslim CM, S'wak Muslims told’ is obviously inaccurate and factually wrong.

There is not a single utterance of CM position or CM name but what was uttered words like ‘kepimpinan’ and ‘menerajui’ which does not necessarily refer to a figure but to the idea of Muslim leadership in Sarawak and in this case the BN.

Prudent: @KCW, Malaysiakini's original title is factually correct even if not interpreted in its historical context. The main drift of the speech is to pitch for the Muslims to vote BN in order to maintain the leadership of the state in Muslim hands.

Annuar Rapaee gave his justification to, as Wong Chin Huat pointed out, to a Muslim crowd. It was a pitch based on religion and racism. He would not have dared to make the same pitch to a mixed crowd.

And even the justification - fairness to all - is a lie. The constituencies that the PBB contest make up less than half of the voters of the Sarawak's natives' constituencies of Marudi, for example.

Robbed!!: If this speech had been made by an opposition candidate and reported by BN, the Special Branch would investigate and read between the lines of what was in the speech and will charge the person accordingly.
