Opposition front unravelling as DAP, PKR cross swords

YOURSAY | 'PKR and PAS seem to share the same kind of ideology: playing out their partners.'

Forget pact with PKR, Zaid to tell Kit Siang over oysters dinner

A Voice From The Wilderness: This is one of the numerous times former law minister Zaid Ibrahim has spoken sense. For DAP to have a friend like PKR, it does not need enemies.

The only person they can rely on is de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim, but he is in jail, helpless and has lost his usefulness.

PKR deputy president Azmin Ali is PAS chief Abdul Hadi Awang's darling. PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail has passed her expiry date.

DAP, it's time to make the hard decision - politically divorcing PKR is the best option.

Ksn: This is an excellent suggestion for DAP and Parti Amanah Negara to adopt. PKR is unreliable. They have proven this many times.

Southpaw: Indeed, Zaid's suggestion could be an option for DAP to consider, given Azmin is largely running the show in PKR. Very soon, we will see Wan Azizah and her supporters sidelined in the party.

Hopeful123: It is a very good suggestion, Zaid. DAP and Amanah must seriously look into forming a new coalition. PKR and PAS seem to share the same kind of ideology: playing out their partners.

This cannot work with GE14 around the corner. I agree that there are very good leaders in PKR but with a person like Azmin as their leader, the party is a gone case. He seems to play a very dirty game, much to his advantage and not to Pakatan Harapan's.

DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang, with DAP's excellent track record and Amanah’s moderate Muslim-Malay members, a new alliance would be a better idea. It's time to dump PKR.

Chances are there would be quite a number from PKR who might jump ship. Take them all in with conditions. Hopefully, PKR's Rafizi Ramli will join the new alignment.

FairMind: Zaid is right. Better still if Amanah and DAP eventually merge into one party to make it even more multiracial. PKR is caught in a time warp and it can't seem to go beyond Anwar.

Moreover, PKR has the baggage of Umno leftovers. DAP must be brave to take a step back in order to take Malaysia forward four or five steps.

Jaguh: Yes, Zaid, it makes a lot of sense. The stable, loyal and consistent ones are DAP and Amanah. PKR and PAS waver depending on the direction of the wind.

Fight it out. Then consolidate. PKR's dream of a PM from their ranks is as good as dead.... even if Anwar is freed.

How Siow: The Azmin team's control of PKR has changed the dynamics of the partnership. Obviously, Zaid's suggestion is worth consideration. Azmin will not hesitate to partner Umno if he thinks it benefits him.

So it's better to have a loose hook-up without obligations than to include them in every equation. I believe Azmin hates DAP more than Umno. Watch his body language.

Swipenter: PKR was the Achilles' heel of Pakatan Rakyat, and now Harapan. It has too much of Umno's DNA embedded in it, so it's very hard to purge it from its system. I think Amanah has more integrity and is more reliable than PKR.

Prudent: PKR without Anwar, and effectively under the leadership of Azmin, is Umno-ising rapidly.

Its behaviour is not much different from PAS - backstabbing in the Penang state assembly, dodgy policies in the Selangor state assembly, and now backstabbing in the Sarawak election.

Will DAP wait for the likely fatal backstab in GE14? Read the signs now. PKR is now under the control of Umno's Trojan horses. That Wan Azizah is strangely silent over the Sarawak backstabbing is indicative that Umno could well have a hold over her too.

Did Umno make her some promises on Anwar's freedom in return for her silence, and thereby acquiescence, to the Sarawak election backstab?

DAP, please read the signs. Save yourself but reach out to and increase your credibility with the Malays who have not bowed their knees to 'cash is king' and ‘ketuanan Melayu’ policies.

As for those who have done so, let them drink from the bitter cup of racism to its very dregs.

The Analyser: "Zaid stated that politicians must start offering Malaysians a credible platform that has regard for the interests of the people." That is nothing but words - empty, useless words.

Words of the type that religions use to inflate their imaginary but undeliverable promises. The factors he mentioned are the basic principles of political thought in a democracy.

The fact that they have been completely ignored by the selfishness of Malaysians is proof that the present generation of politicians will never embrace such a simple concept.

PuteriReformasi: Zaid, of all people, is in no position to make such a suggestion. Especially since he is not a member of any party in the coalition.

If Zaid is sincere in bringing down BN, he should be a member of the coalition, not stand outside and make blind statements.

Fear: Why forget PKR when PKR has got very capable leaders like Nurul Izzah, Rafizi Ramli and ultimately, Anwar? It is common for two good parties to be in conflict with each other, so let the voters decide.

The party with the highest votes won should contest more seats in the next election.

Sweet Mango: In your wildest dreams, Zaid. This is one of the silliest suggestions you have made. And Lim, being a veteran in the game, is no fool to take such a stupid risk and make things worse.

Anonymous #22175361: BN vs DAP-Amanah vs PKR-PAS. That's good. But can this bring down PM Najib Razak and gang?
