MPs find it harder than illegal immigrants to enter S’wak

YOURSAY | ‘This is the worst violation of democratic principles underlining the Federal Constitution.'

Nurul Izzah barred from entering Sarawak despite writing in

Kim Quek: Sarawak Chief Minister Adenan Satem has obviously gone on an orgy of abuse of power to bar scores of parliamentarians and state assemblypersons of his country from entering Sarawak to carry out legitimate political work.

This is the worst violation of the democratic principles underlining our Federal Constitution, upon which this nation was founded.

It is also the greatest insult to our people, 51 percent (as against 47 percent for ruling BN) of whom in the last election have supported the political alliance these barred lawmakers represent.

Our law-enforcing institutions, which are now world renowned for their spineless servitude towards the ruling elite, may be condoning such abominable abuse of power, but the people retain the final veto power against such conduct, exercisable through their votes in an election.

Adenan, with solid backing by BN in Putrajaya, has already made Sarawak, and by association, Malaysia, the laughingstock of the world through such election antics.

How far would Sarawakians allow their errant caretaker CM to indulge himself in such wild conduct before it pricks their conscience and respond accordingly?

Should they entrust their welfare and their future to such a leader who seems to have dominated the entire Sarawak scene? They will have the golden opportunity to make their decision felt come polling day on May 7.

Asitis: Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar, you did not ask politely enough. It appeared that Uncle Adenan was not satisfied.

Headhunter: Do not appeal to Adenan. He just wants some cheap thrills to boost his ego. It goes to show that he doesn't keep his promise.

Funny isn't it, that it is easier for an illegal foreigner than for an elected Malaysian parliamentarian to enter the state?

Mushiro: The list of those barred shows many MPs and state representatives. Sarawak is in contempt of the Malaysian Parliament and the many state assemblies. It needs a handicap to win the election.

Proarte: Sarawakians are very concerned about the divisive nature of Islamic politics, which Nurul and her family play to the hilt.

Her father, Anwar Ibrahim, was in part responsible for the massive influx of Muslim illegals in Sabah which has irrevocably wrecked the beautiful country that was Sabah.

Nurul must repudiate 'ketuanan Islam’ and ‘ketuanan Melayu' and make more effort to look more Malaysian than Arab.

Her speeches to a plural gathering must not touch on Islam as this is not welcome and is utterly disrespectful. Politicians should just stick to politics and nothing else.

Whilst I disagree with the ban, which is undemocratic, I do not see it as totally unwelcome because of what Nurul and her family represent with their Islamic agenda.

The Analyser: Instead of griping about who has been prevented from entering Sarawak, Malaysiakini should be berating the Pakatan Harapan parties for being so negative and non-proactive.

As I have said all along, if Pakatan Harapan had something to offer Sarawak/Malaysia then it wouldn't need personalities on the ground. Take a page out of the recent Iranian election where the reformists won a significant number of seats by using the internet and social media.

Malaysia has an extremely high adoption rate of social media but that is completely useless to Pakatan Harapan because it has nothing to sell. Get it?

Proarte, if Nurul were to repudiate Islam then PKR would have really, truly, totally, have nothing to offer. Your suggestion is equivalent to asking the DAP to repudiate the Chinese. Then the DAP too would have really, truly, totally, have nothing to offer.

How Siow: The internet cannot be effective in Sarawak. Illiteracy is high and WiFi coverage low. Besides, big names help to gather the crowd while Pakatan Harapan is new.

It's old-fashioned politics in Sarawak. The votes of illiterates carry the most seats and most are in the interior, which is hard to reach.

Anonymous_4031c: Why bother having elections. Just continue to do as you please and tear the Federal Constitution and bin it.

Fairplayer: The governments in Sarawak and Malaysia are formed by gullible, illiterate and ignorant rural folks who have no idea about politics, and what forming a government is all about.

Maybe there should be a law for those who failed SPM and below from voting, or from standing as candidates.

The army, police and all security personnel should also be exempted from voting to ensure a fair fight. Those guilty of offering bribes during elections should receive jail time of not less than one year.

Voice: When things start to go well for Pakatan, Adenan has become more desperate and goes to the extent of reneging on his word.

Beep!: Clearly Adenan is not his own man. The new boss is from Putrajaya. It's not 'Pek Mo' anymore.
