S'WAK POLLS The DAP has specially planned a ceramah for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak for him to explain issues surrounding 1MDB as well as the RM2.6 billion donation scandal to voters in Sarawak.

“The prime minister will be specially allotted the prime slot at 9pm at our ceramah location in front of Moyan 100% Discount Store, Jalan Matang, Batu Kawah, Kuching,” said Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua in a statement.

Pua was appointed by DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang to liaise with the Prime Minister’s Office to iron out details with regard to the “Great Sarawak Debates on 1MDB”.

The Gelang Patah MP had earlier said that he had emailed Najib over his intention to appear before the cabinet meeting, slated to be held in Kuching tomorrow. Lim had also challenged Najib to participate in the debate series.

Meanwhile, Pua said Najib will be given a "full and unhindered opportunity" to explain not only to the people of Kuching but 2.6 million Sarawakians, if they have to foot the bill for the 1MDB "financial disaster".

“He will also be able to explain the question which Sarawakians have been asking over the past few nights – where did billions worth of ‘donations’ go?”

Pua (photo) added that the prime minister is also welcomed to assign others to explain the matter on his behalf, and this includes Sarawak Chief Minister Adenan Satem.

Adenan, said Pua, had "feigned ignorance" over the 1MDB scandal while SUPP president Dr Sim Kui Hian, who is contesting the Batu Kawah seat, is also welcomed to speak on Najib’s behalf.

Should the prime minister choose to attend the event, Pua said Lim, who is currently in Song, will rush to Kuching to participate in the debate while Pua, who is barred from entering Sarawak, will also take part in the debate albeit via Skype.

“Mature political debates are the embodiment of a healthy and vibrant democracy, and an integral part of free and fair elections.

“The voters will be given every opportunity to weigh the facts and views presented by the debaters before casting their votes on polling day.

“Therefore the people of Kuching and Sarawak will await with great anticipation, the acceptance by the prime minister or anyone of his nominees, of this open invitation by the DAP,” Pua said.

Lim had earlier explained that he wants to present his case on why the cabinet must take a stand on the 1MDB issue.

As for the debate, the veteran DAP leader had suggested that they be held starting tomorrow in Kuching, followed by Sibu on Thursday and Miri on Friday.
