A portal aligned to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has taken a sarcastic swipe at Mukhriz Mahathir over his lawsuit filed this morning.

MyKMU.net said this is the first time a politician is suing someone for accusing him of wanting to become prime minister.

Apart from claiming that Mukhriz has made a historical move, it also said this must be the first legal action of its kind in the world.

“Prior to this, there were those who claimed to be God or a prophet and many more. But they were never sued, but an accusation of wanting to become prime minister, there is a suit.

“Yes, when people have money and influence, all sorts of suits (can be filed),” it added.

Mukhriz filed the suit against Najib’s press aide Tengku Sariffuddin Tengku Ahmad, whom the former Kedah menteri besar claimed had defamed him with his media statements.

The son of former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad also denied the allegation that he was conspiring to topple Najib in order to become prime minister in the future.

He also claimed that Tengku Sarifuddin’s media statements gave the impression that he was unprincipled, immoral and willing to circumvent the democratic process to achieve his ambition.

Mukhriz also denied that his father was attempting to engineer his political ascension.

Meanwhile, MyKMU.net pointed out that Tengku Sarifuddin’s allegation was not vile, given that the position of a prime minister is not something notorious.

“Was not his (Mukhriz) father a prime minister for 22 years, was it a notorious job, was it defamatory?” it asked.

On the same note, the portal said Mukhriz had the legal right to file a suit against anyone, and it is up to the courts to decide on the matter.

“We the people are also eager to see this case proceed, we want to know which part of the allegation (of wanting to become prime minister) can embarrass a person?” it added.
