Najib recounts tale of '40,000 Bangladeshis' for S'wak voters

S'WAK POLLS Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has reminded voters in Sarawak of how the opposition allegedly concocted stories to confuse people during the tail end of campaigning.

Turning the clock back to the last general election, he said: “We must be careful during the last moments of the campaign where certain issues will be hurled like how during GE13, the opposition made it viral that we imported 40,000 voters from Bangladesh.”

“This was such a hot issue then, which made the people angry towards BN. Only after the election, did they realise it was a big lie,” he was quoted as saying by Umno Online.

Najib, who is also BN chairperson, was speaking to reporters after chairing the cabinet meeting in Kuching this afternoon.

In view of this, the prime minister urged the voters in Sarawak to exercise caution with regard to such accusations.

He said the opposition often waged psychological warfare during elections.

Therefore, Najib said voters must differentiate between what can be accepted and implemented, and not something that stokes sentiments or motivates the people to criticise the government.

“The opposition know that if they cannot convince the voters, they will at least try to confuse them.

“This is their psychological warfare tactic. This has been proven in the elections before this,” he added.

'God willing, BN will win again'

Meanwhile, Najib vowed to remain by Sarawak Chief Minister Adenan Satem’s side to ensure victory for all BN component parties in the state election.

“Do not think that victory is in our hands. We must work hard. God willing, BN will win again,” he said.

The May 7 state election would see voters casting their ballots for 80 seats in the 82 seat state assembly.

The ruling coalition won two seats uncontested on nomination day.

BN is expected to retain the state, with pundits predicting a bigger win compared to the previous polls.
