Prove money politics in Sarawak claim, Nancy defies Kit Siang

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Nancy Shukri has challenged DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang to prove his allegation of political corruption in Sarawak instead of hurling baseless claims.

Nancy said Lim’s allegation that voters in Sarawak are bribed up to RM2,000 is nothing more than a political gimmick to soil the credibility of BN candidates in the state election.

“If this allegation is true, we ask him to prove it and report it to the Election Commission and police.

“We cannot accuse anyone without evidence. There is also the possibility of some quarters there doing it and blaming others for it,” she told Umno Online.

On the same note, Nancy said she would not be surprised if the opposition peddled various excuses for not reporting the matter.

She added that whenever government agencies, such as the EC or the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), do not favour the opposition, they would cast aspersions on their credibility.

“The opposition would accuse these agencies of being pro-government, but when these agencies act in their favour, there would be no noise (from the opposition),” Nancy (photo) said.

Meanwhile, Umno Youth information head Jamawi Jaafar said allegations of vote-buying and phantom voters were part of an old script which the opposition would recycle whenever there is an election.

“I have been in Sarawak since nomination day, and what I have seen is that the people of Sarawak are mature when it comes to politics.

“That is why the opposition ceramah are quiet and fail to draw response (from the people).

“The opposition uses propaganda it feels would help their candidates, but voters there do not want politics that confuse the people or the racial politics brought by the opposition, especially DAP,” Jamawi said.

Sarawakians will be casting their ballots tomorrow for 80 of the 82 seats in the state assembly.

BN won two seats uncontested on nomination day.
