Zahid: BN to use several approaches to woo young voters

The BN has several approaches adapted to localities to draw the support of young voters in the Sungai Besar parliamentary by-election, said Umno vice-president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

"We have several approaches adapted to the situation in localities. We are confident these methods will convince the target group of youths," he told reporters after chairing a coordinating meeting with Selangor BN leaders in Sekinchan today.

However, he declined to elaborate on the approaches.

Another Umno vice-president, Hishammuddin Hussein, Umno information chief Annuar Musa and Selangor BN chairperson Noh Omar were also present.

Zahid said Umno would work with the other BN component parties to draw the support of non-Malay voters.

The by-election is set for June 18, with nomination on June 5. The seat fell vacant following the death of MP Noriah Kasnon in a helicopter crash in Sarawak on May 5.

Zahid, who is also discharging the duties of the Umno deputy president, said BN gave the mandate to the Selangor BN and the party machinery in Sungai Besar to ensure victory for the coalition in the by-election.

He expressed confidence that the BN would be able to increase the 399-vote majority attained in the last general election through hard work and solidarity within the coalition.

"We have to set aside personal interests. We will show that we can achieve a major victory. The strong machinery comprises the locals," he said.
