Khalid: PKR can't object to Amanah's candidacy in twin by-elections

Parti Amanah Negara communication director Khalid Samad said PKR cannot object to his party's candidacy in two upcoming by-elections if PAS insists on contesting both seats well.

"PKR cannot object to this," he said when asked at the Parliament building on the possibility of PKR disagreeing with Amanah's candidacy in the Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar by-elections.

"The deal was PKR will stand if PAS retracts itself (from Sungai Besar) but since PAS refused to concede (the seat), then Amanah will contest," he added.

PAS views Amanah as an enemy and is unwilling to make any concessions to its splinter party, insisting on contesting in both seats.

As a compromise, PKR proposed that PAS concede the Sungai Besar seat in favour of PKR and Pakatan Harapan will stay out of Kuala Kangsar and allow a direct fight between PAS and BN.

With PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang refusing to make any concessions to PKR, Khalid foresees that Amanah will contest both seats in three-cornered fights against PAS and BN.

However, he assured that there will only be representative by Pakatan Harapan in the by-elections.

"When we discuss, we will ensure there is no overlapping claim in the Harapan parties," he said.

"As far as we are concerned, we feel that it is good that both seats will be contested by us," he added.

Khalid said the Pakatan Harapan presidential council is expected to make a decision tomorrow and Amanah will abide by this.
