The Home Affairs Ministry has formed a task force to investigate the implementation of the Malaysian Immigration System (myIMMs).

Its secretary-general Alwi Ibrahim, who heads the task force, said the ministry is collecting the relevant documents to identify the weaknesses of the system.

“Initial investigations revealed that it involve immigration officers at the KL International Airport (KLIA) and KLIA2.

“Several officers have been transferred while several are in the process (transfer),” Alwi told reporters after a meeting with chief secretary to the government Ali Hamsa in Putrajaya today.

The Auditor-General’s Report 2015 said the implementation of myIMMs, the system developed to support the operation of the Immigration Department, was unsatisfactory and did not meet its objectives.

The report said the biometric features of myIMMs costing RM10.3 million had been supplied and paid for but not installed and used at entry points for the screening and identification of foreigners and Malaysian citizens.

Yesterday, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he believed the implementation of myIMMs by the Immigration Department was sabotaged.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also Home Affairs Minister, said some names had been identified and would be announced by Immigration Department director-general Sakib Kusmi and the Royal Malaysian Police.

Meanwhile, Sakib said the Immigration Department will investigate elements of sabotage internally and externally, including the involvement of vendors and foreigners, which led to disruption in the implementation of myIMMs.

“We are continuing the investigation to determine who are involved and will make an announcement with the police when the time comes.

“They have not been summoned as the investigation is still under way. They will be summoned when the time comes,” he added.
