'DAP backing Amanah in twin polls to get back at PAS'

Parti Amanah Negara is a tool used by DAP in the upcoming by-elections to act out its vengeance against PAS, said PAS Youth vice-chief Khairil Nizam Khirudin.

He said DAP is using Amanah to do this, because it does not stand a chance if it contests the Malay majority constituencies of Sungai Besar or Kuala Kangsar.

“For DAP, it does not matter if (Pakatan Harapan) loses if they can split PAS’ vote resulting in its defeat.

“Let BN win, and DAP will wash its hands on the matter and use that to show that PAS is weak even when PAS has a winning chance in a straight fight against BN,” he said in a statement.

PAS lost to BN in the two constituencies by a margin of about one percent in the 2013 general election.

Khairil Nizam said Amanah was equally proud when they stole votes from PAS in several constituencies in Sarawak, even if Amanah candidates ended up losing their deposits.

“They are proud because they did their duty to DAP - that is to take away votes from PAS,” he said.

He similarly warned PKR against cooperating with DAP, after the Pakatan Harapan allies clashed in six constituencies in Sarawak.

PKR said it is still negotiating with PAS to stand down in Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar, but PAS Youth chief Nik Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz said the Islamist party will not budge.

Amanah Youth said the party will abide by Pakatan Harapan presidential council’s decision, if PKR is fielded instead.

The June 18 by-elections are called following the death of incumbent Kuala Kangsar MP Wan Muhammad Khair-il Wan Ahmad and Sungai Besar MP Noriah Kasnon in a helicopter crash on May 5, during the Sarawak election campaign.
