BSI shut down in S’pore and yet PM insists 1MDB above board

YOURSAY | ‘You are a disgrace to all Malaysians, and to your race and religion.’

No misuse in 1MDB administration and accounts, claims Najib

Anonymous 2415891461978791: "There was only weakness in the administration of the company," said PM Najib Razak in a written reply to a question on 1MDB in Parliament.

Gimme a break. 1MDB was allegedly conceived from the very start by certain personalities as an enterprise to siphon off billions of dollars for personal enrichment and to buy support and maintain political control.

They had co-conspirators like then International Petroleum Investment Co (IPIC) managing director Khadem al Qubaisi and Aabar Investments PJS chairperson Mohamed Al Husseiny; the crew at PetroSaudi International (Tarek Obaid, Prince Turki Abdullah, Pat Mahony); and Nik Ariff Faisal Aziz at SRC International.

They had facilitators like Tim Leissner at Goldman Sachs and the allegedly corrupt BSI bankers. They had numerous helpers within 1MDB such as Jasmine Loo and Casey Tan.

And they had a bribed or blind cadre of Malaysian "law enforcement" types to cover their asses. It's all coming out now.

It's a little late in the day to deny that billions have gone missing, or more precisely have allegedly gone into bank accounts of Najib, Riza Aziz, Red Granite, Jho Low, and others. This much has been documented already.

If that US$3.5 billion hadn't gone to fake Aabar, probably 1MDB would not have defaulted. The money diverted to Good Star was misappropriated under any conceivable interpretation of the facts.

Anonymous_1408265047: A bank has been closed down, Tim Leisner is to appear before a grand jury, the Swiss government is to prosecute those running the BSI merchant bank and criminal investigations into the conduct of persons associated with 1MDB launched.

The ANZ Bank is selling its share in AmBank and repatriating its employees for fear of repercussions, and yet Malaysia’s prime minister says there has been no misappropriation of funds and that the US$3.5 billion was lost through bad management.

Thank goodness. We can all now get on with our lives. But US$3.5 billion is a lot of money to lose, is it not?

Wira: Indeed, the 1MDB scandal has already caused a bank closure by MAS in Singapore. You can go figure if Najib is lying or telling the truth.

Pemerhati: All evidence so far indicates that 1MDB, which was under the full control of Najib and which could not carry out any major transactions without his written approval, deliberately sent US$3.5 billion, or RM14 billion, to the wrong company called Aabar Investment PJS Limited.

The money from this company then went to various people, including allegedly Najib’s step-son. So how can anyone believe a statement which says that, ‘There is no misappropriation in 1MDB's accounts and administration?’

Disgusted: You are a disgrace to all Malaysians, and to your race and religion. No one disgraces Islam like you and your supporters do. Every time we go overseas or someone from overseas visits us, the common talk is about how corrupt the Malaysian PM and government are.

Here, people especially in rural areas, are kept in the dark about this kleptocratic regime. However, you can't fool the educated city folk and the foreign media.

Any statement you make is nothing but baloney and will not be believed and accepted by sane rakyat. So don't waste time explaining anything about 1MDB. Res ipsa loquitur.

When internationally your 1MDB is being investigated by different countries for money laundering and corruption, over here you are trying to use all institutions under your control to sweep it under the carpet.

Rick Teo: So everything is fine and dandy in 1MDB. Then how did the money from 1MDB ended in British Virgin Islands (BVI), and from there money to the tune of US$150 million was transferred to your stepson, Riza?

Cogito Ergo Sum: A bank was closed in Singapore, investigators in more than five countries are probing 1MDB, two charged for their dealings related to 1MDB, and an admission that monies went to a wrong company, but there is nothing wrong with the investment fund back home.

Poor 1MDB. It did everything by the book and still being dragged to court all over the place. It must have done it all using the wrong book - the Umno playbook. And no one told them that the book is not valid overseas.

Anonymous #32557251: Weaknesses in the administration of the company is not a crime. A perfect explanation and I would not be able to come up with something like that in a thousand years.

All the alleged crimes related to 1MDB were carried out overseas, such as Singapore, BVI, etc. You have to be very smart to be a PM.

OurFutureOurMalaysia: The dam will burst, and the nearer to GE14 the better. That is one silver lining for Malaysians. The longer Najib/Umno drag this out, the worse it is for them when the dam gives way.

Negarawan: When a criminal uses his authority to clear his name, and continue to commit wrongdoings with impunity, then a kleptocracy is born.
