Sabah will always remain in Malaysia, says CM

Sabah has never recognised or acknowledged any claim by the Philippines or any other quarter on the state, Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman said today.

"Let me clearly state that Sabah is in Malaysia and has chosen to be and will continue to be a part of this sovereign nation since its formation," he said in a statement in Kota Kinabalu.

He was responding to the Philippines incoming president Rodrigo Duterte's intention to pursue the country's claim on Sabah.

Musa added that the people in Sabah have been enjoying peace, stability and economic prosperity within Malaysia.

"Our allegiance is to the Malaysian flag. The (Philippine) claim is irrelevant," he said.

Meanwhile, Sabah Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister Jainab Ahmad Ayid insisted that those pursuing a claim on the state should respect the sovereignty and wish of the people here as Malaysian citizens.

"We have been enjoying unity, prosperity, economic stability and have lived in harmony under Malaysia. Don't spoil it for us now.

"We have gone through so much trouble to combat cross-border problems and claims on the state that we never recognised. That is testament of our love for our land as being part of Malaysia," she said when contacted today.

Silam MP Datu Nasrun Datu Mansur too agreed with the chief minister that the people in Sabah chose to be part of Malaysia when the country was formed nearly 53 years ago.

"We are proud to be Malaysians and we want to be part of Malaysia forever," he said.
