Kedah Menteri Besar Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah reportedly collapsed during a meeting this evening.

According to The Star Online, Ahmad Bashah collapsed while discussing Kedah Umno's deployment to assist in the Kuala Kangsar by-election.

The report, quoting an unnamed source, said Ahmad Bashah was taken to the Kedah Medical Centre and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

“He arrived at KMC at about 7.30pm, and attended the meeting at the Grand Alora Hotel at about 7pm,” the source was quoted as saying.

Ahmad Bashah took over the position of menteri besar in February after Mukhriz Mahathir was ousted by Kedah Umno.

The move was seen as a retaliation by Najib Abdul Razak against former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad who led a campaign to unseat him as prime minister.

Ahmad Bashah, 65, is the state assemblyperson for Bakar Bata.

'Stable but slightly weak'

Meanwhile, Bernama reports that the condition of  Ahmad Bashah, who was rushed to the Kedah Medical Centre this evening after feeling dizzy, was stable although slightly weak, according to his political secretary Shaiful Hazizy Zainal Abidin.

He said the Menteri Besar was only suffering from a slight tiredness and dizziness before blacking out and was rushed to the medical centre.

"He did not faint and fall, just a slight dizziness. His condition is now stable and is still under observation by the hospital," he said when met by reporters at the KMC grounds.

Ahmad Bashah had earlier attended a meeting with State Assemblymen from BN at the Hotel Grand Alora at 7pm, and was rushed to hospital at about 7.15pm.

Meanwhile, Shaiful said an official statement would be issued by the State Secretary, Datuk Bakar Din, tomorrow.
