YOURSAY | ‘I hope the MACC Academy can teach recruits to be honest.’

Abu Kassim: I was not pressured to resign as MACC chief

Ferdtan: It is payback time for Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Abu Kassim Mohamed for his role, together with former attorney-general (AG) Abdul Gani Patail and ex-Bank Negara governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz, in the special task force of four enforcement institutions which was formed to investigate 1MBD.

One had been sacked, the other’s contract was not renewed. There is only one person left ‘unpunished’, and that is MACC chief. Forget about inspector-general of police (IGP) Khalid Abu Bakar; he was obviously not with the team.

Hermit: Retiring prematurely is unheard of in Bolehland. The pastures are too good that it has become a tradition for every head of department to enjoy a series of post-retirement contractual extensions given on a silver platter.

This practice has demoralised the entire civil service for the next-in-line are seeing solid walls being erected against their career advancement.

Apart from rejuvenating new blood, sending off an employee promptly on pensionable date is a good internal practice for whatever has been hidden under the carpet can be exposed for all to see.

Mr KJ John: Abu Kassim, as one of your consistent supporters, I am especially disappointed. You cannot contribute globally when you have not succeeded locally.

How Siow: I hope the International Anti-Corruption Academy can teach you to be honest and neutral.

Anonymous 2340211439301870: Will this be the world's first anti-corruption academy accepting a ‘dedak’ (animal feed) fellowship?

Pemerhati: “Sources indicate that he (Attorney-General's Chambers senior officer Dzulkefli Ahmad) had played a role in helping to clear Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak. He was also a member of the secretariat in the multi-departmental and agency's investigations into state firms 1MDB and SRC International, replacing Jessica Gurmeet Kaur, who was initially appointed by then-attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail and was suddenly terminated.”

Hopefully, the source or sources can also indicate the person or persons who played a role in putting deputy public prosecutor Kevin Morais in an oil drum.

Not Convinced: Sigh. I guess the MACC has gone over to the dark side of the Force. The Empire has won. For now, perhaps.

Will those young recruits in the Jedi Academy mount a rebellion?

Abu Kassim's term discontinued at his own request, says gov't

Zanzibar Leopard: Leaving the service at his own request? I find it hard to believe.

My theory is that the government has made life difficult for the chief commissioner to carry out his duty. Feeling that his situation is hopeless, it's better to submit his resignation letter.

This is so that the government can wash its hands clean and claim the chief is voluntarily opting out.

It would be the general perception knowing how the nation's supremo was cleared of corruption by the new AG apparently appointed for that purpose.

Ipoh Pp: "He (chief secretary to the government Ali Hamsa) said that with Abu Kassim at its helm, the MACC had discharged its functions with excellence in line with its vision to create a Malaysian society free of corruption based on spiritual values and high morals."

I nearly fell out of my chair reading this, especially “a Malaysian society free of corruption... blah-blah-blah”.

Appum: Let the chief secretary clarify this point: "To serve as an anti-corruption officer until his mandatory retirement on Dec 6, 2020". What does this mean?

Is he getting ‘gaji buta’ of a superscale officer but serving as an officer until 2020? Is his case an optional retirement or what?

Is he demoted from top man in MACC to officer level but getting a top post’s salary and perks? If he is getting the same salary and perks, then he should be transferred to another appointment which meets with his status.

You mean his is a cold storage movement? What kind of precedent is followed here?

HaveAGreatDay: To me, Abu Kassim will be remembered as the MACC chief who promoted the officer allegedly implicated in political aide Teoh Beng Hock's murder.

Whether he is forced out of office or not is immaterial - he has not shown any real ability to take on corruption in high office, never mind his own boss.

6th Generation Immigrant: Perhaps now the two ‘sickly’ former attorney-general and former MACC commissioner can now actually compare notes without fear of scrutiny to then write their autobiographies of ‘What they each could have done while in position to save Malaysia’.

It will make good reading post-events, it’s all just a case of the old Cold War threats that Nato peddled - no action, talk only.

Cogito Ergo Sum: 6th Generation, if he writes a memoir, the title should be 'Grease is the way'.
