Honda Malaysia Sdn Bhd confirmed the airbag inflator of a Honda City involved in a fatal accident yesterday, had ruptured in the crash.

It said the vehicle was among the close to 150,000 recalled by the carmaker due to faulty Takata airbag inflators.

Three recall notices were mailed to the owner, it said.

However, the repairs were yet to be done when the car rear-ended a Mercedes Benz at Kota Damasara yesterday.

"Our thoughts and sympathies are with the family of the driver in this difficult time," it said in a statement.

First responders said the driver, a mother of two, was believed to have been injured by an object found protruding from the steering wheel but cause of death has yet to be disclosed.

The woman died on the scene but the passengers as well as those in the Mercedes Benz were unscathed by the collision which reportedly caused minor damage to the Honda City.

Honda urged owners of Honda vehicles affected by the recall to get their vehicles repaired at authorised dealers as soon as possible.

They can check if their vehicle is part of the recall by calling 1-800-88-2020 or visiting www.honda.com.my, it said.
