Four robbers escape with RM230,000 in jewellery from shop

Four men took only five minutes to escape with jewellery worth RM230,000 in a robbery at Kampung Batu 7, Jalan Kebun in Shah Alam, yesterday.

Shah Alam police chief ACP Shafien Mamat said three workers were in the jewellery shop when four men in the 30s arrived on two motorcycles at 3.52pm.

"The suspects, wearing crash hemlets and armed with a pistol, parang and a hammer, threatened the workers to hand over the jewellery.

"No customer was inside the shop at that time and no employee was hurt," Shafien told reporters after launching 'Op Selamat 9' in Shah Alam today.

He said investigations revealed the jewellery shop is a family business, which began operation over a year ago and not equipped with safety features.

Police found a jacket belonging to one of the suspects at the scene. The case is being investigated under Sections 395 and 397 of the Penal Code.
