Police have recorded the statement of Pahang mufti Abdul Rahman Osman over his labelling of those supposedly opposed to Islam as kafir harbi when commenting on non-Muslims' objection to hudud.

"The mufti's statement was recorded at his office on Wednesday morning," Pahang police chief Sharifuddin Ab Ghani was quoted saying by The Star.

Sharifuddin said the case was being investigated by the Penang police and the Pahang police are facilitating the probe.

Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar said Abdul Rahman's statement would be investigated under the Sedition Act 1948.

This was after two police reports were lodged against him.

Abdul Rahman was last week quoted by Umno-owned Utusan Malaysia as labelling DAP kafir harbi, but the mufti later clarified that he was referring to all non-Muslims who opposed Islam.

Kafir harbi refers to non-Muslims who wage war against Islam, and some Islamic scholars believe this category of infidels can be slain.
