The security level at Malaysia's main gateways, KL International Airport (KLIA) and KL International Airport 2 (KLIA2), have been raised to amber (high security alert) since March, said Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai.

He said the public and passengers should not be unduly worried following the recent terror attack at Istanbul's Atartuk Airport as the Malaysian authorities were in full control of security at KLIA and KLIA2.

The security level at the airports had been raised to amber following the bombing at the Brussels airport in March, he said.

"We have kept the security level at amber until now with cooperation from the police and auxiliary police at the airports.

"There is no need to worry. Do not panic over the situation. In Malaysia, we are fully in control of security," he told reporters after launching the iWalk walkalators at KLIA2 in Sepang today.

Liow, however, urged the public to alert Malaysia Airport Holdings Bhd (MAHB) if they encountered suspicious or unattended baggage and items.

"Public cooperation is needed. We want the public to give information. If there is any baggage unattended, please alert MAHB personnel so that we can move in quickly," he said.

The iWalk is an initiative to shorten the walking time for departing and arriving passengers by up to 35 percent compared to before the installation of the new walkalators.

The iWalk makes up part of the 28 new walkalators installed after the opening of KLIA2 in 2014 to provide more comfort and convenience to arriving and departing passengers.

Besides the installation of walkalators, Liow said, KLIA2 also provided free buggy service to passengers as 25 units of buggy had been made available.
