There are bigger cases to work on than FAM, Johor crown prince tells MACC

The Johor crown prince has hit out at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for its interest in the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), saying it has other cases it should work on.

Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim said he wished to resolve the problem of alleged corruption in the FAM on his own.

“Your actions show that MACC is so desperate to investigate FAM. There are plenty of other bigger cases in the country that MACC still are not able to solve.

“Perhaps it’s better to focus on these unsolved cases. The information in the pendrive belongs to me,” he said in a statement posted on the Southern Tigers Facebook page.

Earlier this week, Tunku Ismail claimed he has in his possession a pendrive containing details on alleged corruption in the national football governing body.

This prompted MACC to say on Tuesday it welcomed any evidence that the crown prince might have on the matter.

“If the information has basis for offences under the MACC Act 2009, the commission is ready to take appropriate action according to the law,” said the anti-graft body.

The crown prince said today he would inform the MACC should he require assistance.

“There is no need to make a big fuss regarding the matter. Those who are not involved should just sit quietly. Solve each of your debt problems,” he said.

“The problem with FAM is there are too many FAM fighters outside of FAM. For the time being, let me solve this issue with the relevant people.”

Although the prince did not mention any particular case in his latest statement, the country is currently focused on various claims of misappropriation in the 1MDB scandal.

The Unites States Department of Justice on Wednesday filed lawsuits seeking to seize assets bought with funds allegedly siphoned from 1MDB.
