'Search for MH370 in remaining 10,000 sq km to continue'

MH370 Malaysia and several countries involved in the search of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 will continue to find the best method to search in the remaining 10,000 square kilometre areas.

Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister Jailani Johari, who is also MH370 Search Mission Communications Committee chairperson, said all the parties involved are still optimistic the aircraft would be found in the 120,000 square kilometre in the south of Indian Ocean.

"Now that we have to suspend (the search) temporarily due to weather and we will resume from October to December. During the suspension period, the cooperation between the Malaysian, Australian and the Chinese governments are still ongoing.

"So, let us pray that we will find it (aircraft) during the remaining period because we need to believe (in that). All the countries involved are committed in looking at the best method to cover the 120,000 square kilometre (areas) because we know that people, especially their next-of-kin are hopeful."

He was speaking to reporters at the Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) Aidilfitri open house in Kuala Lumpur today.

A joint-statement issued in conjunction with the Ministerial Tripartite Meeting held here today, said the search for MH370 will be suspended and not terminated, upon completion of the 120,000 square kilometre search area.

The meeting, involving transport ministers of Malaysia, China and Australia, disclosed that the search was to be suspended as there were no new credible information in identifying a specific location of the aircraft.

Jailani said the investigating team together with experts would continue to investigate objects found at several locations including the recent one on Kangaroo Island, south of Australia and Madagascar, Africa, until they are confirmed as belonging to the ill-fated aircraft.

Flight MH370, carrying 239 passengers and crew, disappeared from radar shortly after taking off from Kuala Lumpur enroute to Beijing on March 8, 2014.

The aircraft has yet to be found despite massive search operations in southern Indian Ocean where it was believed to have rested after diverting from its original route.
