Into the abyss of lies, half-truths and deceit

YOURSAY | ‘Salleh, if this is not criminal, I wonder what really is your benchmark.’

Minister: Don't rush to judgment on 1MDB crackdown in US

Anonymous 1890491455255851: Is Communication and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak more concerned about who the third party was or what was unearthed by the US investigators?

Such misplaced concern is telling. This is what Umno is all about. It's not about duty to country. It's about duty to who can keep you in undeserved power and position, and keep your bank account strong and healthy.

Please stop talking nonsense. You have not shown any form of transparency ever since this affair was made public. The best you could come up with is ‘Arab donation’.

Falcon: In all fairness, it is imperative that the US attorney-general and the Department of Justice (DOJ) plainly and clearly announce, the identity of the aforenamed ‘Malaysian Official 1’, so as to prevent unnecessary spin by those in the corridors of power in Malaysia.

Perhaps, my dear friend, former US ambassador John Malott could help facilitate this at his end so that the 26 million Malaysians now caught in this abyss of lies, half-truths and deceit can be enlightened.

I am certain ministers Salleh, Azalina Othman and others should have no worries about it and encourage such a revelation to protect those who are innocent. Right, YBs?

In Singapore alone, the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) probe had revealed a "complex international web of transactions involving multiple entities and individuals operating in several jurisdictions," and that several financial institutions in Singapore were used as conduits for these transactions.

Salleh, if this is not criminal, I wonder what really is your benchmark.

Vijay47: Of late I have been wondering about the immediate ardent response from Salleh to any issue that contributes further to Najib's miserable image, after all, he is the minister of communications and multimedia and not the prime minister's press agent.

To make things even more suspicious, there is hardly a squeak from other Umno leaders such as Abdul Zahid Hamidi, Khairy Jamaluddin, Hishammuddin Hussein, and even that foul-mouthed Bung Moktar Radin.

Is Salleh one of those who received a generous portion of Najib's fortuitous gift from Arabs?

Vent: Let me reassure you, Salleh. We have never rushed into judgement. It’s just that we can’t contain our delight that it appears as if justice will be served after all.

In fact, we Malaysians are such a bunch of fools that we very nearly believed that the Saudis would be stupid enough to gift Najib that very generous amount of money.

But now we have been told by his own golf buddy’s Justice Department that it is graft that has gotten him into trouble. So you can’t really blame us for being relieved, can you?

Tholu: Salleh, if the court finds that indeed billions had been siphoned off/"stolen" from 1MDB by ‘Malaysian Official 1’ and his relatives and cronies, would you resign from your ministerial post and perhaps even leave Umno?

Actually you must do so since you had been vehemently defending the PM of any wrongdoing in connection with 1MDB despite knowing full well until now that the company is fraught with corruption and abuse of authority.

By the way, Salleh, would you at this juncture say that Sarawak Report had been fabricating false news regarding 1MDB and that it had been lying all this while?

Hardboiled: Dear minister, I wish to share three reasons why you should go back to school:

Moral Studies 101 - Justice must not only be carried out but be seen to be doing so. Where has that been shown in Malaysia? How can any official be allowed to have monies transferred in small and medium and exorbitant amounts to a personal bank account?

Basic Law 102 - Everything of import is under Official Secrets Act (OSA) and whistleblowers are hounded. There is little transparency and zero accountability. The case files are all over the table, but nobody is looking at them.

English 103 - "Today's action sends a message to corrupt foreign officials. The FBI, together with our international partners, will find these individuals and root out their corruption."

Officials are not businessmen. They are government representatives. So that means the government of Malaysia has been accused by the US attorney-general that you, the officials, are corrupt.

Anonymous_4031c: We must be thankful to the US government for securing the interest of the Malaysian people in taking this action with the intention of returning all the stolen money to the people of Malaysia, something our government has not shown they are doing other than to classify every other document or report that suggest wrongdoing under OSA.

How do we explain this?

Tan Kim Keong: Salleh, how can you ask people not to jump to conclusions or rush to judgement?

I mean the attorney-general (AG) had prevented the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) from collaborating with foreign investigative agencies on 1MDB, found no anomalies with the transactions and declared Najib innocent.

Kawak: Despite all these DOJ findings, Umno-BN will still win the 14th general election.

The majority of the rakyat, particularly the elderly, and those residing in rural and semi-rural areas do not know a thing about the 1MDB debacle and its impact on the country.

As long as they continue to receive BR1M (Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia) and had food on the tables, they are happy.

An act that could even rival Comical Ali’s
