Azmin strikes back - is Saari begging for exco post?

Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali has shot back at Selangor Parti Amanah Negara deputy chief Saari Sungib, asking if he is fishing for a place on the state executive committee.

"Is Saari trying to be a beggar for a state exco post?" fired Azmin on his Twitter yesterday night.

While the PKR deputy president did not elaborate on his one-liner, he is likely responding to Saari's comment at a forum yesterday asking if the menteri besar is playing "palace politics" to justify keeping PAS in the state government.

Saari, the Hulu Klang state assemblyperson, commented that PAS is "beyond repair".

"If it is to be repaired, it would take 20 to 30 years to repair PAS," he said at a Gerakbudaya forum in Petaling Jaya.

Azmin has often been criticised for allowing PAS to continue in the state government originally formed by the now defunct Pakatan Rakyat after the 2008 and 2013 general elections.

Last year, PAS decided to break ties with Pakatan partner DAP, leading to the formation of a new coalition, Pakatan Harapan, with PAS splinter Amanah.

This has led to a dilemma where the Selangor government is neither a Pakatan Rakyat nor Harapan government, but a partnership between DAP, PKR and PAS.

PAS has three state excos in Azmin's cabinet.

The situation has led Selangor PAS assemblypersons, who unanimously supported a call for a ceasefire between PAS and Harapan, to moot for a rebranding of the state government as a 'Pakatan Pembangkang' government.

Following last night's Twitter war, DAP Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng joined in to call for a "ceasefire, please" between Azmin and Saari.
