Two men in Klang charged with IS-related terrorist activities

Two men were charged in the Magistrate's Court in Klang today of involvement in Islamic State (IS) terrorist activities. They face two charges each.

Mohmad Zaini Mohmad Isa, 31, and Roshelmyzan Husain, 31, nodded to indicate they understood the charges read out to them before magistrate Nor Asma Ahmad. No pleas were recorded from them.

The court fixed Sept 7 for mention pending transfer of the case to the High Court.

Mohmad Zaini allegedly provided support to the militant group at Lot 539, No F/1, Telok Gadong Kecil, Jalan Yadi in Klang, between March 25 and June 30 this year.

The charge under Section 130J(1)(a) of the Penal Code carries a maximum jail sentence of 30 years or a fine on conviction.

He is also accused of harbouring Junios Ondie@ Jahali from arrest, despite being aware that the latter could have committed a terrorist act along the Pulau Indah highway in Klang, around 7.15pm on June 29.

He is charged under Section 130K(a) of the Penal Code which carries a life sentence, and may be liable to a fine, on conviction.

Roshelmyzan allegedly solicited support for the terrorist group through the Telegram app at Lot 1616, Telok Kapas, Rantau Panjang in Klang between March 25 and June 29 and is charged under Section 130J(1)(a) of the Penal Code.

He is also accused of possessing IS militant paraphernalia in the conference room at Sime Darby Plantation Sdn Bhd Building, Nuri Refinery, PKNS industrial zone II, Bandar Sultan Suleiman, Port Klang at 2.10pm on June 29.

The charge under Section 130JB(1)(a) of the Penal Code carries a maximum seven years' jail or a fine and possible forfeiture of the items, on conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Syed Farid Syed Ali appeared for the prosecution, while the men were unrepresented.
