Apandi, prove US attorney-general Lynch wrong

YOURSAY | ‘Since the AG and IGP are right, then the DOJ must be wrong. Or is it the other way around?’

Final warning for Guan Eng to stop commenting on his graft case

CQ Muar: Look who is talking about ‘integrity’. Now that your counterpart from the US Department of Justice (DOJ) had presented a different view at a recent explosive press statement, you still reckon you have ‘integrity’?

Prove the US attorney-general (AG) wrong, so that we can respect you as our Malaysian AG worthy to be labelled as a leader with integrity.

Vijay47: Apandi, I am sure Penang CM Lim Guan Eng is most appreciative that you have kindly if not uncharacteristically given him notice of your intention to defend yourself and your integrity, whatever that means, should your patience be tested further.

Such generosity, hitherto reserved for Najib's many escapades, would be a welcome diversion from the alleged selective enthusiasm you have displayed in executing your duties, though no doubt this warning is a flash in the pan.

But don't bother with niceties, sir, go for the kill and carry out the machinations you have in store for Guan Eng - Khalid Abu Bakar, the inspector-general of police (IGP), will certainly be dying to help.

Your present sulking and stamping of feet may also be towards distracting the public for the attention you and your failures are drawing from the annoying United States.

While awaiting more developments from the land of the free, I would suggest that you beseech Salleh Said Keruak and Tan Keng Liang to put in a word or two for you. You will soon need every break you can get.

Anonymous 568201438363345: In Malaysia, the AG and the IGP don't know where to find those documentary evidence in relation to 1MDB.

When it comes to Guan Eng, fuyoh, lightning speed in finding it. (Mind you, I'm not defending Guan Eng. If he's corrupt, serves him right.)

Dear AG and IGP, the DOJ has lots of documentary evidence in their hands in relation to 1MDB.

Can these two gentleman answer the rakyat why nothing is being done to obtain those readily available documents which are in the hands of the DOJ? Just give us one reason and it would suffice.

The IGP and the AG should issue a rebuttal on what the DOJ has claimed in relation to 1MDB. Just issue a statement that their investigation is flawed and ask the DOJ to retract the civil suits.

Since the AG and IGP are right, then the DOJ must be wrong. Or is it the other way around?

Justine Gow: So long as you do nothing regarding the RM2.6 billion issue, no one will believe what you said even if Guan Eng is really guilty of corruption.

Yes, bring out the evidence you have. We will be the judge.

NNFC: Check the definition of integrity please. Did the AG act with integrity when he declared that there was no case against the Malaysian Officer 1? If there was no case, how come DOJ can get evidence?

Who authorised 1MDB funds to be transferred to the various accounts? Was it Riza or Jho Low? Who? These are merely questions which we can all answer ourselves - so we do not need to say it loud.

Hang Babeuf: Apandi talks about upholding his integrity. It seems that it is his wounded sense of personal dignity that is the issue.

Apandi = "effendi". Effendi, Effendy or Efendi is a title of nobility meaning a Lord or Master. It is a title of respect or courtesy, equivalent to the English Sir, which was used in the Ottoman Empire.

It follows the personal name, when it is used, and is generally given to members of the learned professions and to government officials who have high ranks, such as bey or pasha.

It may also indicate a definite office, as hekim efendi, chief physician to the sultan. Effendi is still used as an honorific in Egypt, Jordan, and Turkey (as well as some other former Ottoman states).

In the Ottoman era, the most common title affixed to a personal name after that of agha was efendi. Such a title would have indicated an ‘educated gentleman’, hence by implication a graduate of a secular state school (rüsdiye), even though at least some if not most of these efendis had once been religious students, or even religious teachers.

And most important - the possessive form ‘efendim’ (my master) is used by servants, in formal discourse, when answering the telephone, and can substitute for "excuse me" in some situations (e.g. asking someone to repeat something).

Effendi is the source of the word ‘efendim’, a particularly polite way of saying, "Excuse me?", and can be used in answering the phone. So this is a “Please, you can’t be understood on the phone” attorney-general.

Pisasu 7: What integrity do you have when your friend is named as Malaysian Official No 1.

Are you blind, especially when the electronic billboards in Times Square in New York and Canary Wharf in London were flashing ‘Malaysian PM linked to stolen funds’?

Keturunan Malaysia: (“I have to issue this final warning because his latest comments are tantamount to an assault on my integrity as the public prosecutor,” said Apandi.)

For the life of me, can someone take away and/or assault what I do not have in the first place?

Demi Negara: Apandi? Integrity? Does it sound like a trick question?
