Did Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin give his deputy Khairul Azwan Harun his blessings when the latter lodged a police report against against former Bank Negara governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz, outgoing Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief Abu Kasim Mohamed and former attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail?

That's the question former information minister Zainuddin Maidin wants answered.

"I want an explanation from the Umno Youth chief whether he consented to Umno Youth's actions," Zainuddin wrote in his blog today.

Khairul had earlier claimed that Zeti, Abu Kassim and Gani were involved in a conspiracy to topple Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and the Malaysian government.

In his police report, which was sighted by Malaysiakini, the Umno Youth leader said the three were suspected of providing confidential information to foreign agencies without authorisation, including the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

He also alleged that some of the documents submitted were falsified and the information twisted to achieve their agenda.

This followed the US Department of Justice's (DOJ) damning revelations alleging that more than US$3.5 billion of 1MDB funds had been misappropriated.

The report had reinvigorated calls for Najib to step down.

Zainuddin said it was odd that Khairy was not at the forefront of defending the prime minister.

"Is he unwilling to be involved in Umno Youth's heroics to defend the country and as part of the party's responsibilities?”

Meanwhile, in response to Khairul's claims, former inspector-general of police Musa Hassan said all enforcement agencies had close ties and share information with their foreign counterparts.

"There's nothing wrong with that. Such relations have long (been established).”

He said whoever made the police report may not have understood international cooperation between enforcement agencies.
