DAP Youth mocks PAS' renewed confidence in judiciary

DAP Youth has rebutted a PAS leader over the latter's renewed "confidence" in the present government's judiciary, while being blind to the growing 1MDB scandal.

"When did PAS start to have such high confidence and trust in the system of the nation, until they have easily concluded that the final yardstick of an election shall rest on the court's verdict in a clear cut political motivated charge?" asked DAP Youth chief Wong Kah Woh.

He said PAS information chief Nasrudin Hassan's call for the proposed Penang snap election to be held only after the court hands a verdict on Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng's case was "absurd".

Wong, who is Canning assemblyperson, said in contrast, PAS has been silent on the 1MDB scandal, which has seen the US initiate a series of asset forfeitures.

"For PAS, 1MDB scandal seems like an 'I see not, I hear not' issue.

"Singing the tune of Umno has become a priority to PAS now," said Wong in a statement today.

"Nasrudin Hassan is to be reminded that the people have yet to see the courage of PAS to speak against the BN government following the unfolding of events in the mother of scandals, 1MDB.

"The people have also yet to hear from PAS, as an opposition at least by name, to voice up for the people of Malaysia for the official confirmation on the identity of 'Malaysia Official 1', which was mentioned not less than 36 times in the US Department of Justice (DOJ) legal suits for the seizure of over US$1 billion of assets stolen from Malaysia," he said.

'PAS believes Umno?'

PAS, he said, should apply their "gung ho" attitude towards DAP to Umno instead.

"PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has once said the party wants to be the advisor for Umno and its ruling coalition.

"However, it seems that PAS had now been adversely 'advised' by Umno into believing that a just, uninterrupted and fair verdict will be delivered in the charge against an opposition leader.

"This could be the result of getting too close with Umno since 2015, though remaining an opposition only by name," said Wong.

DAP is pressing for a snap election in Penang, which it has ruled since 2008, to take advantage of the DOJ lawsuits that have rocked Prime Minister Najib Razak's administration.

The call was also mooted following the charging of Lim over the purchase of his bungalow allegedly at below market value, and for rezoning a piece of land, allegedly for the benefit of the seller.
