The government has authorised only certain individuals to speak on 1MDB in the wake of the US Department of Justice's (DOJ) forfeiture suits to recover assets allegedly embezzled from the state fund.

International Trade and Industry Minister Mustapa Mohamed named 1MDB president and group executive director Arul Kanda Kandasamy and Finance Minister II Johari Abdul Ghani as the sole spokespersons.

Arul Kanda would play an important part in the information campaign coordinated by Johari, New Sunday Times quoted Mustapa saying today.

He said this is because the duo, who are involved in the issue, have "accurate information".

"The issue involves legal, financial and business matters, and they are the ones with accurate information," he said at a Hari Raya open house in Kota Baru.

"Those who are not involved may not understand. Arul is ready to go around the country to give talks," he added.

The information campaign is aimed at briefing 1.4 million civil servants.

Umno MPs have been briefed on Friday and senior civil servants had attended a briefing before that, he said.

The DOJ had filed civil lawsuits to seize assets which it claimed were acquired from funds allegedly misappropriated from 1MDB.
