One of three suspects wanted in connection with the murder of Miri PKR branch secretary Bill Kayong in June surrendered at the Miri police station today.

Sarawak CID chief SAC Dev Kumar said the 50-year-old man was accompanied by his lawyer when he gave himself up to the police about 4.50pm.

According to the police, the suspect is the personal assistant of a 'datuk', believed to have masterminded Kayong's murder.

Interpol assistance has been sought to track down the 45-year-old 'datuk' who has fled to Singapore and thence to Melbourne, Australia.

In a statement in Miri, Dev said the suspect who surrendered would be produced at the Miri Magistrate's Court tomorrow to obtain remand and subsequently, be charged according to the charge sheet.

He said efforts were under way to locate the third suspect, aged 35, who owned a KTV lounge.

He said that on July 9, warrants of arrest were issued for the three men by the Miri Magistrate's Court.

Kayong, 43, whose Muslim name was Mohd Hasbie Abdullah was gunned down while in his Toyota Hilux vehicle about 8.30am on June 21, at a traffic light intersection at Lutong near E-Mart supermarket in Jalan Miri-Bintulu.
