PAS today urged Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to reveal to Umno-BN who is the person described as Malaysian Official 1 (MO1) in the court action filed by the US Department of Justice (DOJ), so to clear the confusion over the matter.

Its deputy president, Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, said there were some in Umno-BN who were confused like Langkawi MP Nawawi Ahmad, who created a controversy in naming the Yang di- Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah as the MO1.

"To avoid prolonged confusion... Najib as BN chairperson and Umno president needs to tell Umno-BN who actually is this MO1.

"If the person cannot be named, then people can make guesses from the description of his hair, his features, who his wife is and his relationship with Riza Aziz and his post in 1MDB," he said in a statement today.

This way, Umno-BN MPs could make an educated guess and not become like Nawawi who associated MO1 with the Agong, he added.

Tuan Ibrahim also said that if Nawawi did not want to apologise for making a wrong guess, then Najib should apologise on behalf of Umno-BN to the Agong for his failure to deliver full information to Nawawi.

"If Nawawi had been given the right information, he would not have made a wrong assumption as to who actually is MO1and Umno-BN would not have been humiliated for making the wrong guess.

"Nawawi's folly proves why the Conference of Rulers wanted the 1MDB issue to be investigated and stern action taken against those responsible,” he said.

Tuan Ibrahim reiterated his call for the settting up of a Royal Commission of Inquiry comprising experts in economics and Islamic financing to conduct a probe on the 1MDB so as to settle the matter and clear the Agong's name.

Nawawi, who is also Keretapi Tanah Melayu chairperson, had in a Facebook comment on Aug 17 stated that based on the Federal Constitution, it is the Yang di-Pertuan Agong who is responsible for the government. The comment was edited four hours later.

He said that according to the Federal Constitution, the government was formed with three separate and independent entities – the judiciary headed by the chief justice, the legislative led by the Parliament speaker and the executive directed by the prime minister.

"All three entities are responsible to the Agong. Hence, according to the constitution, MO1 is the Agong," Nawawi said.

The posting created a heated debate in the Kedah state legislative assembly when former menteri besar Mukhriz Mahathir urged Nawawi to apologise, while former Langkawi Umno member, Anina Saadudin, lodged a police report against Nawawi.

Nawawi had clarified that his statement on Facebook has nothing to do with the court documents filed by the DOJ on 1MDB.

He claimed that he mentioned ‘Malaysian Official Number One’ instead of MO1 and that his comment was related to the Public Accounts Committee report on 1MDB, and not to the DOJ filings..

Nawawi himself has lodged a police report on Aug 20 over this and he was quoted to have said that he will apologise to the Agong only if the ruler asks.

Tuanku Abdul Halim's cousin, Syed Idrus Syed Baharom, who represents the Kedah royal household, has also weighed in the dispute, saying that Nawawi should not drag the palace to the dispute.
