Red shirt surveillance; KL mayor absolved of any graft

KINI ROUNDUP Here are the key headlines that you may have missed yesterday, in brief.

Red shirt surveillance

Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Md Yunos, who leads the Himpunan Merah faction of the red shirt movement, revealed that surveillance by operatives from the pro-government group has identified 35 students at the TangkapMO1 rally in Kuala Lumpur last weekend, who will likely face disciplinary or legal action soon.

Jamal's faction also showcased its claimed multi-racial make-up yesterday, gathering a 300-strong crowd featuring 100 or so Indians and Chinese, in addition to its usual predominantly Malay line-up, which he claimed represent Malay, Chinese and Indian NGOs, poised to face off against the Bersih 'yellow shirts'.

Meanwhile, Malaysiakini chronicled the adventures of first-time rally organiser and TangkapMO1 coalition spokesperson Anis Syafiqah Md Yusof throughout the course of the student-led rally yesterday evening.

KL mayor absolved of graft

DBKL advisory board member Rizalman Mokhtar said there is no reason for Kuala Lumpur mayor Mohd Amin Nordin Abdul Aziz to resign over the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's (MACC) ongoing graft probe of Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), as he was not involved in any corruption and may not have been aware of the alleged graft.

Rizalman said that the irresponsible actions of DBKL officers involved in corruption may have contributed to the high property prices in the city, though he added that it is still too early to come to any conclusion over the ongoing MACC investigations.
