'MACC's anti-graft blitz while ignoring 1MDB is unconvincing'

Former Umno leader Khairuddin Abu Hassan has blasted the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for going after several senior officials but ignoring the 1MDB scandal which is the subject of global investigations.

Khairuddin said he has lodged a number of MACC reports on the 1MDB scandal, as well as on the multi-billion ringgit deposits in Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's personal bank account, but no action has been taken.

"The MACC should not merely have the courage to take on small cases, without the guts to touch on the prime minister's (alleged) abuse of power," he said in a statement last night.

The MACC has conducted several operations against senior civil servants after Dzulkifli Ahmad took over as MACC chief commissioner last month.

However, Khairuddin said the operations would not convince the people, so long as the MACC continued to ignore 1MDB and the multi-billion ringgit deposits.

He also urged the MACC to investigate former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin's claim last Sunday that he was shown evidence by former attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail that there was almost RM4 billion in Najib's account.

"MACC must investigate the latest revelation by Muhyiddin. The MACC should summon the former deputy prime minister and question him.

"The same applies to the former attorney-general, who should also be questioned by the MACC," he said.

Khairuddin said he was prepared to lodge another MACC report over Muhyiddin's revelation, but wants assurance that the graft-buster will act on the matter.
