MACC tracing Penang DAP rep's father over 'housing graft'

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is trying to trace the father of a Penang DAP assemblyperson to assist its probe regarding alleged "under-table dealings" for the purchase of affordable homes.

State MACC director Abd Aziz Aban said they were having difficulty locating him.

"So far we have not been able to contact him. He is also not at home," he told Bernama when contacted.

He said MACC had taken statements from six individuals regarding the case and that investigations were still ongoing.

The probe followed a video clip going viral online that allegedly showed the man, aged 68, brokering deals so that buyers could "cut the queue" on the waiting list to get the homes which are very much in demand in the state.

Meanwhile, Penang DAP chairperson Chow Kon Yeow, when met at the state-level National Day celebration in George Town, said the party would not be conducting an internal probe on the matter as it had nothing to do with the assemblyperson concerned.

He added that the party would give its fullest cooperation to the MACC on the matter if asked.
