The government's proposal to impose a Tourism Services Fee for hotels is necessary in order to generate funds needed to promote Malaysia, said Tourism and Culture Minister Nazri Abdul Aziz.

He said this is to make up for cuts in the ministry's promotion budget, following the drop in oil and gas revenues for the government.
