The Magistrate's Court in Miri today fixed Oct 28 to mention the case of three people charged with the murder of Miri PKR secretary Bill Kayong in June this year.

Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles set the date after the prosecution, conducted by deputy public prosecutor Musli Abdul Hamid informed the court that was still waiting for the chemist report.

All three accused - Mohamad Fitri Pauzi, 29, Lie Chang Loong, 39 and Chin Wui Chung, 50 - nodded when informed by the court interpreter that case had been fixed for mention on Oct 28.

Fitri, a bouncer, was charged on July 15 with murdering Kayong at a traffic light intersection near the E-Mart Supermarket, Jalan Miri-Bintulu, at 8.20am on June 21.

He is charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code and faces the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

Lie, who is a pub owner, was also charged on July 15 with abetting Mohamad Fitri, together with Chin, who was charged on Aug 29, and Lee Chee Kiang, who is still at large, under Section 109, read together with Section 302 of the Penal Code.

On Aug 11, the Sarawak police announced that it had sought the assistance of Interpol in the hunt for Lee, who is believed to the mastermind of the murder.

Lee was said to have left for Melbourne, Australia, on July 3 from Singapore.

Meanwhile outside the court, counsel Abun Sui, who is holding a watching brief for Kayong's family, said he had written a letter to the Australia High Commissioner in Kuala Lumpur to seek Lee's whereabouts and citizenship status.
