Ku Li, stop seeing elections through race-tinted glasses

YOURSAY | ‘Some in sarong, some in jubah and some in suits, but all cut from the same cloth.’

Ku Li: Will Malay divide let DAP dominate next election?

Quigonbond: How disappointing that this kind of speculation come from Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah (Ku Li) himself.

The Malay majority areas will either be won by Umno or the other more ‘Malay’ parties in the opposition camp - these areas remain untouchable to DAP.

I don't understand what is his intention going with this line of speculation. He should instead speak up against alleged massive gerrymandering, and the 1MDB scandal.

Existential Turd: When you don't have hard evidence to back up your allegation, call your opponent names. If Ku Li is so concerned about a political party "bermaharajalela", he should look no further than his own.

GE14Now!: Should the DAP become the ‘maharajas’ of the next elections then it is because the corruption in Umno has made this possible.

Just as the extreme stupidity of political correctness has created the possibility of a Donald Trump presidency, here in Malaysia the continued and increasingly alleged scandalous corrupt practices of Umno has made it possible for the DAP to be the maharajas (and that is not a bad option - in fact it would be a good change).

So stop blaming others, Ku Li, the problems in Malaysia have been caused by the government of the day, and it has been a long 50-odd years’ worth and it is time to get rid of you lot.

New Dawn: Umno leaders give too much credit to DAP. The mention of DAP sends shivers down the spines of Umno and PAS leaders. However, ordinary Malays are perfectly at ease with DAP and other Pakatan parties.

It may be good for Umno and PAS to merge so that there is a clear cut choice for voters. Umno-PAS on one side and Pakatan and allies on the other; no more hedging and no more indecisiveness for PKR and their supporters.

Drngsc: Can we stop seeing elections through race-tinted glasses? Can we vote for capable leaders to lead Malaysia? Can we begin to bring about a Malaysian Malaysia?

Mushiro: Umno domination, meaning Malay domination, for the last 59 years has not improved the Malays. Even with the New Economic Policy (NEP), the rural Malays remain almost the same. Umno has failed the Malays badly.

But Umno Malays have become extremely very rich, but that is because of corruption, commission mentality, big bank loans taken but not repaid, croynism, kleptomaniac habits and for all the wrong reasons.

We cannot boast of many Malay tycoons and entrepreneurs who came up on their own. On the other hand, there are thousands of Malays who failed in business, became bankrupt and cannot repay their loans, including the National Feedlot Corporation.

A PKR, Amanah and DAP domination will be a welcomed change. A glimpse of this is readily available in Selangor and Penang.

Ku Li should not mislead the Malays further, especially when he cannot and has not contributed his efforts to improve anything for the Malays, except giving lip service.

Hang Babeuf: Given the alleged rampant gerrymandering and gross malapportionment that are characteristic of the Malaysian electoral system (and that the Election Commission or EC so assiduously cultivates and promotes), the divisions among Malay parties (and the splitting of Malay votes between them, under the first-past-the-post voting system) will benefit only Umno and its BN coalition partners.

So long as so much of the Chinese vote is ‘locked away’ in a few monstrously large urban electorates, Umno has little to fear. It's is not only me who thinks that way. That, too, is clearly the thinking of the EC itself.

Boonpou: Razaleigh has been nothing but a disappointment in his entire political career. Sure, he almost became the PM but, as it remains, ‘almost’. It is like what they say in the UK, "White, but not quite."

If he was ever of political significance, it was not because of his achievements but because of the political insignificance of so many other political opponents he faced.

In short, he is seen as something significant only because he is in the pool of so many others that are way below mediocre. That has always been the sorry state of Malaysia when it comes to leadership.

Otakechik: The predicament of Malays today, be it their betterment or poverty among some of them, is not the doing of DAP or any Chinese party or personality.

It is the failure of the Malay leadership in whom the Malays had entrusted their faith.

Inworldnotof: Now all can see the real Ku Li emerging. After decades of playing Mr Nice, cowering to the popular gallery and hence paralysed in perennial inaction, he now cashes in on the convenient bogeyman called ‘race’.

But nice try. Keep at it. So ordinary rakyat with no time to waste to put food on the table, what with the ever-increasing costs for daily survival, do not need ever again bank any hope on pretenders like you to help bring about real change for Malaysia. “Bah, humbug” to you.

Oscar Kilo: Us versus them? That's divisive talk. Very disappointing to hear this from Tengku Razaleigh. He should know better. The Malays continue to be kept under a coconut shell for the benefit of the ruling elite. Why continue to demonise DAP?

Don't you know that in this global village, our competitors are from everywhere? Yet you continue to play the race card for your political survival in this small nation. Whack DAP but sell national assets to China.

Hardboiled: To think that DAP represents all the Chinese and only the Chinese is ridiculous. You need to do more homework I would say, but I don't need to, do I?

Your statement is just to cajole the Malays together in some blind confab in order to control them a little longer. How low can a prince get?

It would be a dream come true if Umno and PAS came together. As much as people would fear the combo, I think the two parties would implode. It would be the biggest bullseye in the political arena, too.

Gaji Buta: Some in sarong, some in jubah and some in suits, but all cut from the same cloth.

Anonymous #70881335: Think Malaysian, Ku Li. Forever, the Malays have been talking about Malay unity and the race.

Give it 100 years, the Malays will evolve into Malaysians, like the other races, like it or not. So, better start now.
