DAP parliamentary leader said it was a "great regret" that Umno veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah had reduced Malaysian politics to a case of “Malays versus Chinese”.

"I find it a great regret that Tengku Razaleigh is playing the racial card of reducing Malaysian politics into Malay versus Chinese when it should be a battle between integrity, good governance and democracy versus corruption, bad governance and authoritarian rule," said Lim in a statement today.

Lim said this in reference to Tengku Razaleigh who in a report on Thursday said it was "logical" that some people may think that DAP will dominate the political landscape if the Malays are politically divided.

Lim, who is also Gelang Patah MP, noted that the racial view was amid serious corruption faced by the country, including the 1MDB scandal.

As such, he said the launch of the Bersih 5 convoys in five locations across the country, which seeks to build momentum for the Nov 19 rally, was important to reclaim the country.

"Bersih 5 marks another historic milestone of political awakening of the Malaysian people, regardless of race, religion, region or politics to save Malaysia from global kleptocracy, disunity and ruin.

"It deserves the support of all patriotic Malaysians who are prepared to put the national interests to save Malaysia above all other subordinate or sectional interests,” he said.

Tengku Razaleigh was a guest of honour at Lim's 75th birthday anniversary celebration held in February.
