Still no justice 10 years after Altantuya’s murder, claims father

Odin Tajué: Pardon me, but I think the headline above may not be quite correct. It says ‘Still no justice 10 years after Altantuya’s murder, claims father’.

The word ‘claim’ used in that sense means that Setev Shaariibuu has made a strong statement without providing any proof or evidence to substantiate it.

It is obvious to many of us that justice has not been rendered in the murder trial; therefore, the word has been inappropriately used.

But if we believe that justice has been rendered, then we can use the word, because it means that the absence of justice is merely Setev’s opinion, but he has nothing to back up his statement or, if he has something or some things to support his assertion, he has not provided any.

However, if one wants to be seen as being neutral, and that is to say that one does not hold the belief that justice has either been rendered or not been rendered, or that one wants to intimate that one’s opinion is immaterial, then one ought to use a word that suggests being detached or non-partisan, such as ‘say’ or 'state’.

So, we would have ‘Still no justice 10 years after Altantuya’s murder, says/states father’. If it is any consolation, even many native speakers of English seem unaware of the meaning of ‘claim’.

Having said all that, one would, with feeling of much despair, point out to Setev that his seeking of justice in Malaysia might well be as futile as the search for the Holy Grail.

Datuk Mesti Undi bin Kalahkan BN: The people of the world know who are the real culprits who planned the murder of Altantuya, in which military-grade explosives were used. They are freely moving around, trotting the globe.

Setev should give all concerned Malaysians some time to oust the present bunch of people running the government of Malaysia.

In GE14, the people will change the government, and reopen this case and punish the crooks involved in this murder case.

Roguekiller: Setev, I sympathise with your long wait to get justice for your daughter, and still to no avail.

Hopefully, God willing, the light at the end of the tunnel would be seen after GE14, if the opposition kicks out the present regime.

Ten years have elapsed and you may have to wait a little longer. Pray hard for God's blessing for the opposition to succeed.

No-Brainer: The Australian government has become an accomplice and conspirator in the murder of this Mongolian woman. It is also wasting taxpayers' money by detaining and maintaining a killer in its immigration detention camp.

The Australian government should deport this convicted killer, Sirul Azhar Umar, to Malaysia without any delay as the Malaysian government is not doing anything to extradite him back to this country to face the music and punishment.

It looks like Australia has become a safe haven for murderers. Australia, you are a shame and a disgrace.

Sarawakian: There must be proper closure for Altantuya, otherwise Malaysians will never find peace.

If a new government takes office, the guilty must face justice, and the nation must apologise to Altantuya's family for the untold hardship and suffering.

Headhunter: This story will only take a new turn if the death penalty is abolished in Malaysia and Australia will no longer have an excuse not to extradite him back to Malaysia.

The opposition should take the initiative. No doubt it will take a long time, but the truth shall prevail one day, because there are too many loose ends in the case that don't connect.

The whole trial was a charade and unseen hands were manipulating the case from beginning to end, even now when the case is supposed to be over. Well, it ain't over until the fat lady sings.

Awang Top: So Abdul Razak Baginda is scheduled to speak in Kuala Lumpur. This is like a slap in the face of Setev - a 10th anniversary speech from a man who was embroiled in the tragedy.

Failed State Already: Setev, one can't imagine your pain and suffering, especially as no one seems to be punished for her death. And Abdul Razak is heading back here to speak at a forum.

Is anyone going to sit and listen to his talk? I bet as he talks everyone will only be thinking about the late Altantuya. But there is such a thing as karma, so we wait.

Hmmmmmmmm: Justice will definitely prevail. Just look at history. No party can rule forever. Once the BN government falls, all the injustices committed today will be corrected.

If we are lucky, this may happen in our lifetime. If not, the perpetrators' descendants will bear the brunt.
