Poverty rate in Sabah dropped to 4pct in 2014

The poverty rate in Sabah dropped to four percent in 2014 as compared to 8.1 percent in 2012 and 19.7 percent in 2009, said Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman.

Musa said the success was due to the various programmes and initiatives by the government to alleviate poverty in the state.

"The results show the commitment of the state and federal governments on poverty eradication.

"Among the initiatives are 1AZAM, Mini Estet Sejahtera (MESEJ, Agropolitan, Ladang PPRT, the Peningkatan Ekonomi Setempat (PPES) and Program Bantuan Rumah (PBR) programmes," he said in a statement after chairing a meeting of the steering committee of the Pembangunan Kesejahteraan Rakyat (SPKR)/ Pembasmian Kemiskinan Negeri Sabah schemes in Kota Kinabalu today.

He added that the state government and federal government would redouble efforts so that poverty could be completely eradicated in Sabah.
