No signs of pollution at Sg Buah upstream

A technical report on Hulu Sungai Buah in Negri Sembilan showed no signs of pollution which caused the closure of the Sungai Semenyih Water Treatment Plant.

Menteri Besar Mohamad Hasan said the technical report was the result of an integrated operation by the Department of Environment, Drainage and Irrigation Department, Forestry Department, State Water Regulatory Authority and Nilai Municipal Council.

"The technical report shows no element of pollution in the areas involved, except for an overturned lorry tanker and it could be the possible cause of pollution.

"On the odour of river water, we had experienced the issue when the river water level falls drastically resulting in a higher ammonia content," he told reporters in Seremban today.

Mohamad also refuted the possibility of sabotage in the state leading to the pollution of the river.

"It is proven by reports from all the technical deparments, there was no pollution, let alone elements of sabotage," he said.

Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali had earlier claimed the contaminated river water could be due to pollution at the upstream of Sungai Buah located in Negeri Sembilan which resulted in the closure of Sungai Semenyih Water Treatment Plant.

The pollution at Sungai Buah allegedly flowed to Sungai Semenyih resulting in the closure of the water treatment plant in Selangor while the residents in the state had to suffer water supply disruption.

Mohamed Azmin also claimed the odour pollution at Sungai Semenyih was an act of sabotage by certain quarters linked to the coming general election.
