New revelations in hospital fire

Electrical sparks, which caused smoke at the operating theatre of Sultanah Aminah Hospital on Wednesday, may have also led to the tragic fire at the hospital the day before which claimed six lives.

The Institution of Engineers Malaysia said old electrical system at public hospitals may not have the required safety features and offered its technical expertise to address the problem.

Meanwhile, the Fire and Rescue Department revealed there was a small fire at the hospital 10 days before Tuesday’s deadly incident.

Putrajaya said it will not suspend Medivest Sdn Bhd, the company responsible for the hospital’s maintenance and emergency protocol, pending investigation.

Meanwhile, Johor’s Deepavali celebration has been cancelled out of respect for the fire victims.

No willing auditor for 1MDB

Finance Minister II Johari Abdul Ghani said 1MDB, which has yet to have its books audited, is still trying to look for a willing auditor after the previous three resigned or were sacked.

Meanwhile, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia claimed former ministers may have broken their oath of secrecy when they revealed details of cabinet meetings in their criticism of 1MDB in Parliament.

Leaked emails showed George Soros, through his representatives, lobbied US President Barack Obama to distance himself from Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, citing his “scandal” and the country's “corruption crisis”.

Meanwhile, Bernama News Channel’s Dahlan Maamor, who hosts the ‘Ruang Bicara’ talk show, claimed he was suspended for highlighting his guest’s opinion in his Facebook page that Najib should seriously consider resigning.

Bersih 5 to hit Dataran again

Bersih formally announced that its fifth rally will take place at Dataran Merdeka on Nov 19.

The movement is also confident of getting more Malay support this time despite PAS’ refusal to participate.
