Penang budget - a surplus apparently an alien concept to BN reps

YOURSAY | 'Umno reps are confused because if there is leftover money ...'

Umno rep questions larger Penang budget when actual spending low

Doc: “Why ask for a high amount when you don’t actually use the money?" asked Shah Headan Ayoob Hussain Shah (BN-Teluk Bahang).

Basically, the Umno assemblypersons are confused because if there is leftover money, why is no one walloping it.

This concept of having surplus funds is alien to them.

Swipenter: The concept of spending prudently and wisely is lost on the Umno reps. Umno's spending style is to spend beyond their allocation, spend unnecessarily, spend lavishly and mostly likely spend freely on themselves.

Cocomomo: Penang's actual expenditure fell short of its budget. Shouldn't the chief minister be congratulated rather than be the recipient of cuckoo comments?

Anonymous 610861447515992: It looks like these Umno goons don't understand the difference between a budget and actual spending. We budget slightly more for contingency purposes. When the actual spending is compared, the variants will indicate the competence of the spending.

Finding fault in everything the state does is stupidity at its lowest. These goons should question why the PM's Department has the highest allocations with the largest staff among the federal government departments.

Roy69: Sigh, why are these Umno reps so stupid? The budget is a forecast of the state's expenditure, and spending less than the budget is but savings for the rakyat.

Therefore, the Penang government now has more money, a surplus. On the other hand, do states under BN and PAS have surpluses?

Hopeful but Prepared: Just because BN governments tend to overblow their budget does not mean everyone needs to.

Is it not best to be under budget? Is a surplus not the sign of good governance? I do not understand the logic of the complaint.

A budget is just an estimate, it is the actual spending that matters. To gripe about the budget instead of actual spending is like complaining that the weather forecast says it will rain when the day is actually sunny and clear.

Wira: Asking for more money but actually spending less is better than spending the money we did not budget, and going back to the assembly for more in the form of supplementary budgets for borrowed money.

This is the difference between a Pakatan government and a BN government. This is also a key reason why our ringgit is free-falling today.

Anonymous #69337042: The Umno and Gerakan clowns are ever ready to find fault with the Penang government. But their allegations cannot hold water and they get cheap publicity by doing so.

Ask them to probe the financial performance of state governments under Umno in other states, and these idiots will keep quiet.

However the truth is an open secret. Just look around this country and the status of the ringgit, the people know who have actually ruined this country in the past 60 years.

Anonymous #45522856: When are you going to question the Prime Minister's Office allocations of billions of ringgit and how the money is spent?

Justine Gow: Well, these Umno reps are asking the very questions that should be asked of Malaysian Official 1 (MO1).

Electoral group accused of CIA links challenges Annuar to visit them

Anonymous 539281478077880: Most of the Umno ministers talk through their nose; not knowing that their stupid statements will lead to trouble.

Take Umno information chief Annuar Musa, for example. See, he is being cornered by the Philippines' National Movement for Free Elections (Namfrel) now.

Can he substantiate what he had said about Bersih chief Maria Chin Abdullah?

Hopeful123: Annuar, you are invited to check the veracity of your claims. If you refuse, then you are just talking nonsense, which has become the trademark of our ministers.

If you dare utter such remarks, then you must also shoulder the repercussions. Come on, go to the Philippines and prove you are right.

Appum: We rakyat don't mind sponsoring a first-class ticket for you, Annuar. It's interesting - the same tactic used by former Philippines dictator president Ferdinand Marcos and now Najib's mouthpiece is doing it.

It's also interesting we get to compare Marcos' wife Imelda with our very own Imelda.

Tenfold: These Umno people will make unsubstantiated allegations, which will then be taken up by the Umno media to brainwash the kampong folks.

Does anyone think that Annuar is going to take the challenge by Namfrel? No way.

He is a coward and this is what cowards do. They are feeding him with enough dedak to shrink his brains, if he has any to start with.

Roguekiller: A slap on your face, Annuar - why are you so itchy? Is it that you don't want to lose out to ministers Salleh Said Keruak or Abdul Rahman Dahlan before the eyes of your boss?

Therefore, you have to talk rubbish to kick up some dust to attract his attention?

Now you have been challenged to prove your point, dare you pick up the challenge, Annuar? If you find no fault, make sure you apologise unreservedly.

NNFC: All these bits of unrest are purely distractions. The fact remains that money was allegedly stolen from 1MDB and there was no prosecution by local authorities.
