High Court to hear Movida bomb blast trial on Jan 11

The High Court in Kuala Lumpur set Jan 11 and 12 next year for the trial of two men charged with committing a terrorist act by exploding a grenade at an entertainment centre in Puchong last June.

Judicial commissioner Nordin Hassan set the date after the case was mentioned before him today.

The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Mohamad Mustaffa P Kunyalam, while the unemployed Imam Wahyudin, 20, was represented by lawyers Farida Mohammad, and Jonius Ondie @ Jahali, 24, a factory operator, by lawyer Aaron Mark Pius.

They were charged with eight counts of hurling and exploding a hand grenade which used the ‘Fuze M213’ fuse level which resulted in eight people being injured.

Both were alleged to have committed the offence with the knowledge that the act would cause death to the victims and had injured them.

They were charged with committing the offence at Movida Boulevard Sdn Bhd, Lot G2 & G3, Ground Floor, IOI Boulevard, Jalan Kenari 5, Bandar Puchong Jaya, Puchong, at 2am on June 28.

The charge, under Section 307(1) of the Penal Code and read together with Section 34 of the same code provided an imprisonment for up to 30 years, if found guilty.
